COKO 5-year Strategic Plan

After a productive planning workshop with a third-party consultant, the College is proud to announce the release of the 2025-2030 strategic plan. The strategic plan will provide a long-term framework to guide the College in fulfilling its mandate of public protection, promoting professional standards, and enhancing the quality of healthcare. The plan outlines the key priorities, goals, and strategies to strengthen CKO’s practices, improve governance, and adapt to the evolving healthcare needs in Ontario. It aims to align resources, policies, and actions with the College’s vision and mission, ensuring effective oversight of healthcare professionals, fostering public trust, and contributing to the overall improvement of the healthcare system in Ontario.

QA Survey Series 8 – Professional Boundaries and the Prevention of Sexual Abuse Report

The College launched the survey on Practice Standard – Professional Boundaries and the Practice Guideline – Professional Boundaries and the Prevention of Sexual Abuse in the October edition of the newsletter. We received responses from many kinesiologists and are pleased to report on the results:

  • Kinesiologists should refrain from dual relationships and only providing treatment, care or services for individuals with whom they have a close personal relationship in demonstrably exceptional or emergency circumstances,
  • Kinesiologists may wish to review the College’s guidance regarding the spousal exception to sexual abuse provisions in the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991

Renewing your Professional Liability Insurance

The professional liability insurance (PLI) for many registered kinesiologists expires on December 31 each year. If you are registered in the general class, you must have valid PLI that meets the College’s requirements, regardless of whether you are currently employed or practicing within the scope of kinesiology practice.

If your insurance will be expiring, or your policy or provider has changed, submit your updated PLI coverage to info@coko.ca with the subject line ‘Updated PLI.’

Quality Assurance Self-Assessment

The self-assessment is the first step of the COKO’s Quality Assurance program and an important method for tracking registered kinesiologists’ Continuing Professional Development. The self-assessment is conducted every two years for all members in the active class, beginning on December 1 with the deadline of March 1.

Practice Standards and Guidelines survey series: 2024 in review

Having published monthly surveys regarding various Practice Standards and Practice Guidelines over the course of 2024, the start of the College’s Self-Assessment may be a valuable time to review the 2024 surveys and reflect on professional strengths and opportunities for continuous professional development. Kinesiologists can certainly include Practice Standard and Practice Guideline review and survey completions in their Self-Assessments and Individual Learning Plans.
