Maggie, one of CRAN’s youngest volunteers, loves helping cats and sharing her passion with others. This year, her 5th grade class was assigned a project: create a slideshow and give an oral report on any topic they cared about. Maggie immediately chose CRAN. She and her mom, Kate, volunteer together at the cattery, and Maggie wanted her classmates to understand the work rescue groups do — and maybe even help a cat in need.

With her teacher’s approval, Maggie turned her presentation into a small fundraiser and chose to spotlight Wetzel, a special‑needs cat receiving treatment for pillow‑foot disease. She shared his story, explained how CRAN supports cats like him, and taught her classmates about the many roles volunteers play in rescue work.

Her project was a huge success. Maggie raised $75 toward Wetzel’s care and earned an outstanding grade. Her teacher said she “crushed it.”

Wetzel is still waiting for his forever home. If you’d like to learn more about him, you can visit: Wetzel's Profile

Evie arrived at CRAN as a bottle baby and was later found to have a medical condition causing bowel incontinence. Despite vet visits, specialist care, and exploratory surgery, no definitive cause was found. She spent nearly two years with fosters Ruth and Nigel, who described her as one of the sweetest cats they’d ever met. Her condition never dimmed her affection for people or other animals, and her fosters provided steady medical care, stability, and gentle socialization while she waited for the right home.

Evie’s on line biography clearly described her special needs, and - much to everyone’s surprise - an application finally arrived. Her foster, Ruth, gave the adopters the full picture—Evie would require patience and occasional cleanup, but she was impossible not to love. Evie went home on a trial adoption, adjusted quickly, and soon became a permanent family member. She now sleeps with her adopters, watches the neighborhood from the windows, and shares a calm friendship with Milo, an 85‑pound senior dog. Even Evie’s vet was surprised and delighted that CRAN found such a perfect match.

Evie’s journey shows how dedicated fosters and a mission focused on special needs can turn uncertainty into joy. Long-term foster care, clear communication with adopters, and a community willing to embrace medical complexity made this outcome possible.

Gratitude and recognition

ShelterLuv Is Live!

CRAN is starting the New Year with a major behind‑the‑scenes improvement. After years of juggling spreadsheets, forms, and scattered records, we’ve moved to ShelterLuv, a platform built specifically for animal rescue organizations that centralizes intake, medical records, and adoptions.

Automated to‑do lists now help track medical treatments and daily tasks so nothing gets missed and records stay accurate. Volunteers who completed training describe the system as intuitive and easy to learn, and we’re already seeing how it streamlines routine work.

A foster portal will be added soon, giving fosters a simple way to share updates and photos of the cats in their care. As we continue rolling out ShelterLuv, we’ll keep refining our processes and exploring features that make volunteer work easier and more effective.

None of this would be possible without our incredible volunteers. Thank you to everyone who embraced the change and helped with training and testing. A special thank‑you goes to Christina & Jeff, who led the transition over the past eight months; their dedication made this upgrade possible. We’re optimistic ShelterLuv will lighten workloads and speed adoptions.

We have the most amazing volunteers! We truly could not do what we do without them (CRAN is all-volunteer. We have no paid staff).

A huge thank you to our 4th Quarter Volunteers of the Month!
