I am here to tell you that there aren’t any awards, promotions, or championships that can make up for lost time with your loved ones. If we’re not paying attention, we can sometimes forget the important role family plays in our lives. Recently I’ve learned through mentorship that family should always be a top priority and our jobs the second priority. I tend to take my feelings and stress from my job back home with me and I have realized that it isn’t right and not fair to my family. Putting God first has allowed me to continue to be the best strength coach possible while being the best husband, father, and son as well.
When you leave the office, your work and emotions from the day should be left behind. Redirect all your attention and focus on God and your family. Don’t miss out on quality time with loved ones because it could lead to some of the biggest regrets that you will ever have in life. Always evaluate your priorities daily and keep yourself in check to prevent falling back into bad habits. Lastly, find a mentor in the strength and conditioning field that will not only give you best practices in the weight room, but guide you in life and give insight on how they have coped with struggles of work-life balance.
