Workshop Description: Painting landscape and a street scene in watercolor with full demonstrations both days. Focus on values and large shapes is primary and you will learn fun, easy and quick ways to do value studies before tackling the painting! Students will come away with valuable knowledge to paint more powerful watercolors through a predetermined value system, soft edges, strong composition, and negative painting. Reasons for every decision, color mixes and compositional structuring will be given.

Bio: Cecy Turner is an award-winning artist and a Texas native. She graduated from Vanderbilt University and did post-graduate study in art at University of North Texas and has studied under numerous accomplished artists in both oil and watercolor. Feature articles about her have appeared in Art of the West Magazine, Artists Magazine, Watercolor Artist Magazine (cover), The Best of Flower Painting, and she was chosen by Southwest Art Magazine as an "Artist to Watch." Cecy holds Signature Memberships in American Impressionist Society, National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society, National Watercolor Society, Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, Outdoor Painters Society, American Women Artists and Plein Air Artists Colorado. She is a Fellow of American Artists Professional League and Master Signature Member and Past President of Women Artists of the West. She has won awards in numerous juried competitions. Cecy prefers to paint plein air, and since she began spending half of every year in Colorado her plein air painting has increased to almost daily. She delights in discovering a place she can see something very special about and convey that feeling to others in her work, making it her own. The effects of light and atmosphere are her favorite things to capture in paint. She has enjoyed teaching classes and workshops in both oil and watercolor.

Don't Miss Out on 2022 Merging Visions!
Merging Visions - the exhibit that pairs artists' work with poets' poems - is set for June 4 to June 25, 2022 at the UNT CoLab, 207 N. Elm Street, Denton. The Denton Poets Assembly ("DPA") is the sponsor and organizer of this exhibit.

This will be the thirteenth year of this exhibit of pairings, and the DPA is excited to once again hold an in-person event. ALL area artists are invited to participate in the selection of materials for the exhibit.

THE MERGING VISIONS PROSPECTUS - a pamphlet with all of the pertinent information about the exhibit, the timeline, and entry requirements can be found HERE. Please feel free to pass this information on to artist friends within a 100 mile radius of Denton.

November 17, 2021 marks the opening of a private online site where artwork will be available for viewing by poets, and poetry will be available for viewing by artists. Denton Poets Assembly will close the private online site on January 14, 2022 for new submissions. The organization is limiting the number of pairings for the exhibit to 30 pairings. If 30 pairings have not been established by January 14, 2022, DPA reserves the right to continue receiving new submissions until the limit is reached. Please read the prospectus for information on contact emails and all deadlines.

This year marks the first time that the pairings will be JURIED into the exhibit so deadlines are important. Over the past 12 years of Merging Visions VAST artists have created some wonderful pairings of "Art & Poetry" for past Merging Visions exhibits, so please give consideration to participating in this unique and very well attended exhibit.
