OMWD Certifies Hydroelectric Turbines at David C. McCollom Water Treatment Plant
Encinitas, CA—Hydroelectric generators at Olivenhain Municipal Water District’s David C. McCollom Water Treatment Plant have qualified for the California Energy Commission’s Renewables Portfolio Standard Program and will now generate Renewable Energy Certificates that contribute to the state goal of achieving 60% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
City Developing an Electric Vehicle Charging Station Master Plan
The City is seeking resident and business feedback on where and what types of electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS) should be installed within our community.

The City invites all Encinitans to participate in the development of the EVCS "Master Plan" for future EVCS locations. Metrics like EV ownership rates, charger locations, and potential barriers to increasing EV adoption will serve as valuable information as the City moves toward its goal of making community EVCS more readily available

To learn more about this project or to provide your input, please attend the Virtual EVCS Public Workshop on Tuesday, June 14 from 6-7 p.m.

If you cannot attend the workshop, you can also provide feedback or learn more about the project here.

SDGE ~ The Path to Net Zero
California is targeting a just and equitable energy transition to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045.

That means removing as much carbon from the atmosphere as the state produces. In the San Diego and southern Orange County region, SDG&E and many local cities also embrace carbon neutrality as their goal.

To stimulate community engagement and economywide collaboration to achieve our shared climate goals, SDG&E will be releasing an analysis on how to decarbonize the economy while also prioritizing electric grid reliability, affordability and equity. The Path to Net Zero: A Decarbonization Roadmap for California lays out specific recommendations for the state to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045

CSUSM - College of Business Administration
A hallmark of the College of Business Administration for over 25 years, the Senior Experience Program is a requirement for all CSUSM undergraduate business students. Teams of students are matched with projects submitted by a variety of businesses and organizations. Students gain valuable work experience as consultants on rigorous real-world projects while businesses gain concentrated attention from teams of students who provide a fresh, independent perspective. Organizations pay $1,500 to participate in the Senior Experience Program.

Thanks to a generous gift from Lily and Jimmy Thai (MBA, ’00) through their Build a School Foundation, our leadership center, CLIMB, now offers a Compassionate Leadership Experience. The Compassionate Leadership Experience provides nonprofits with limited funds the opportunity to participate in the College of Business Administration’s Senior Experience Program.
Encinitas Chamber of Commerce and Partners - Opportunities for Corporate Involvement: SDNEDC and Partners Launch Student Opportunities for Career Awareness and Learning
One of the biggest challenges holding back North County’s economy is the difficulty many companies face finding and recruiting talent. With unemployment in the region standing at 4.6% and with even more pronounced shortages in fields that require technical proficiencies, it is among the most important issues that SDNEDC will be addressing in 2022.

Part of that effort will center around SOCAL (Student Opportunities for Career Awareness and Learning), a collaborative project between Tri-City Medical Center, SDNEDC, and 6 chambers (Encinitas, Vista, Oceanside, Carlsbad, San Marcos & Escondido). The goal of SOCAL is to raise awareness among young adults about different careers they might not know about and provide some of the resources and educational pathways that can help them pursue the opportunities.

The first phase is a searchable website with short video interviews from a variety of workers. We encourage you to take some time and explore the site and watch some of the videos.

Should your company be interested in participating as we build out the library, please contact admin@encinitaschamber.com. We have attractive sponsorship packages that will produce three videos of different team members and then elevate the visibility of various job postings and opportunities at your firm. The goal of SOCAL is to have 100 different North County workers highlighted by the end of the year.
Upcoming Innovate78 Event
On July 14th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. the Innovate78 Collaborative, the joint economic development partnership among the 5 North County cities along the SR78 corridor, will be holding a networking and educational event at the Wagner Aquatic and Events Center (3303 Senior Center Drive, Oceanside, CA) focused on talent recruitment and retention.  With 5 great speakers that are in the talent acquisition space, it promises to be a great evening to find out about how north county companies are scaling up during this period of near full employment and ultra-competitive hiring.
