CARNIVAL MEMPHIS

We are so proud to be named one of Carnival Memphis' 2022 Children's Charities. The Carnival Memphis Children’s Charity Initiative (CCI) was developed in 1999 to assist those who improve the quality of life for children throughout the community. Each year different agencies are selected to receive funds raised by Carnival and the Grand Krewes of Carnival Memphis at fundraisers throughout the year. Since the inception of CCI, over $4 million dollars with matching funds has been donated to local children’s charities.

CLOSING OUT THE YEAR WITH SERVICE LEARNING

We are so proud to announce that this past school year our students performed over 4500 hours of service for their community. Service learning serves as the intersect between our academic excellence and values-based character education pillars—bringing content, concepts, and skills gleaned from both to life through hands-on, tangible experiences. While immersed in service-learning projects, students will experience the fulfillment of giving back to their communities and helping others. This program is a HUGE part of Compass life and sets us apart from other educational options. Here are just a few of the happy moments that our students shared with their service partners this last quarter.

Compass-Berclair 2nd grade students had a blast visiting with the residents of Trezevant today! We were invited for an egg hunt but stayed to play springtime bingo, sing songs, share a favorite spring poem and spend quality time together!

Compass-Midtown 9th graders served our larger community and Clean Memphis by collecting 6 bags of trash and disposing of a tire they found!

Our students are doing great work in community gardens throughout Memphis and in our 6 school gardens. We just can’t wait to see what blossoms in our scholars after these hands on service-learning opportunities! Scholars from Compass-Orange Mound are eager to work in the garden after a break and can hardly wait to get back there to check on the baby plants to see how they’re doing after the morning rain!

Thanks to our beautiful partnership with Clean Memphis, the 3rd graders of Compass Community Schools visited TO Fuller State Park. This concludes their study of ecosystems. Above Ms. Annie Hunt from the Orange Mound campus took her excited students to discover the wonders within the park. Below Compass-Hickory Hill students get up close and personal with some of the local wildlife.

COMPASS STAFF LEADS BY SERVING.

Many of our teachers and network administrators came to serve at a mobile food distribution with the Mid-South Food Bank this past semester. We couldn’t think of a better way to spend our last Professional Learning Community (PLC) Day than with a morning of service! These educators helped provide food for nearly 400 families today!!

We are so proud of the hard work our teachers do in AND out of the classroom!

COMPASS CAMPUSES GETTING A FACELIFT

While students are on summer break. Staff and work crews are busy making some much-needed campus improvements. New school signs, paint, and deep cleaning are just a few things that are on this summer's to-do list. We can't wait to see the looks on the students' faces when they return.

STUDENT ART SHOW

Hickory Hill campus showcased artwork from students in grades K-8. Special thanks to the art teacher, Mrs. Kayla Mullins for encouraging the students to do their best work and curating the show. Parents and guardians were encouraged to attend to see our students’ awesome artwork and a special blacklight exhibit was held in the cafeteria. Great job, Hickory Hill campus on an outstanding end-of-year art exhibit!

ANNUAL REPORT 2020-2021

A look back at last year. Our fiscal year ends June 30, 2022. The new annual report for 2021-2022 is coming soon.

We continue to prepare students for college and life-long success, and it's all thanks to you. As charter schools, each student is supported by state and federal funding. While this funding is significant, it does not cover the total cost of educating a child, nor does it cover extras such as intervention, tutoring, or support personnel. Consider partnering with us to bring the dream of a “world-class” education to students in Memphis.
