Charleston Habitat for Humanity is proud to announce the groundbreaking of our first Veterans Cottage on Mint Avenue — a meaningful step forward in expanding affordable housing while honoring those who have served our country.

This new project is designed to increase housing density and create more opportunities for homeownership in the Charleston area, all while specifically serving our local veteran community. The Veterans Cottage will provide a safe, stable place to live — a foundation where a Veteran homeowner can build strength, stability, and independence.

As part of our Veterans Build program, this home represents more than construction — it’s a commitment to ensuring that those who have served have access to the stability and opportunity they deserve. It is also the first of several planned projects that will help Charleston Habitat increase housing supply in our region.

With a goal of reaching 200 families in affordable housing by 2030, initiatives like the Veterans Cottage on Mint Avenue are critical to expanding our impact and meeting the growing need in our community.

We encourage interested veterans to stay connected through our social media channels for updates on when applications will be available and how to apply. In anticipation of accepting applications for the Veterans Cottages, interested veterans should use the link below to register for the April 1st information session.

We are honored to serve those who have served — and this is just the beginning.

Charleston's Construction Couture Event

Women Build: More Than a Build—A Movement

Women Build is more than time on a construction site—it’s a movement that brings women together to build homes, strengthen communities, and open doors of opportunity.

Through Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program, women from all walks of life come together to take action against poverty housing. It’s not about excluding anyone—it’s about empowering more women to lead, learn new skills, and make a lasting difference for families in our community.

Decent, affordable housing is a basic human dignity issue impacting families everywhere. Women Build helps address this need by equipping volunteers to become not only builders, but advocates—people who understand the challenges families face and are inspired to be part of the solution.

At Charleston Habitat, Women Build is a year-round experience with opportunities to engage, learn, and connect:

  • Women Build Panel: Women Leading Change — From the Jobsite to the Boardroom (August 26, 2026)
  • Lunch & Learns:
  • Financial Empowerment & Housing Stability (May 20, 2026)
  • Finding Your Voice: Confidence, Courage, and Self-Advocacy (July 15, 2026)
  • Purpose-Driven Leadership: Leading with Values, Not Titles (November 18, 2026)
  • Sip ‘n Shop at the ReStore (June 30, 2026)
  • Women Build Kickoff (September 16, 2026)
  • Women Build Month (September 23 – October 3, 2026)
  • Women Build Celebration (October 14, 2026)

From September 23 through October 3, women will take over our construction sites to help build homes for local families, gain hands-on skills, and deepen their understanding of affordable housing.

Whether you join us for a single event or the full experience, Women Build offers a meaningful way to connect, grow, and make an impact.

We hope you’ll be part of it.

HABITAT SPOTLIGHT

NEW MEMBER TO CHFH BOARD OF DIRECTORS, AMY GARRARD, RQF COORDINATOR OF HLA, INC.

We are grateful to have Amy Garrard serving in her first year on the Board at Charleston Habitat for Humanity.

Amy was introduced to our mission through former Board Member Amy Chico and quickly became part of the Habitat community — showing up for build days and supporting third-party events before stepping into board service. From the beginning, her commitment has been hands-on and deeply intentional.

What truly shaped Amy’s connection to our work was meeting a future homeowner, Leslie, whose story left a lasting impression. Seeing firsthand the impact that safe, affordable homeownership has on individuals and families in our community strengthened her dedication and inspired her to deepen her involvement with Charleston Habitat.

Amy brings a thoughtful perspective and a genuine desire to expand our reach. She is passionate about growing our base of supporters and partners, ensuring that more families have access to the stability and opportunity that a home provides. She especially values experiences like Women Build, which serve as a powerful reminder of women in our community coming together to make a meaningful impact.

As we continue to build momentum, Amy represents the kind of leadership that moves our mission forward — grounded in experience, driven by purpose, and focused on impact.

THANK YOU, AMY!
