The process of discovering or being told that a child is LGBTQ+ is likely to lead to a period of grieving, where the future of life with the child is grieved because of the sense of loss of what that future was thought to be.

When parents are learning and trying to manage their responses to children with varying gender identities and sexual orientations (Transgender, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Queer) issues may arise when parents have different levels of acceptance.
