Dallas County Elections Sets the Record Straight:
The Signature on Your Ballot is Required by Texas Law
| |
Dallas, Texas – The Dallas County Elections Department is reminding voters that a signature on their ballot is a required security measure, not a reason for concern. A false social media post circulating in Dallas County and several states claims that any writing by a poll worker will cause a ballot to be disqualified.
Texas law requires every ballot to be signed before it is given to a voter, and an unsigned ballot may not be issued. During Early Voting, October 19 through October 30, ballots carry the signature of the Early Voting Clerk, Elections Administrator Paul Adams. On Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, ballots carry the signature of the Presiding Election Judge at each vote center.

Founded in 1846, Texas Democrats continue the march toward re-building a state that acts upon its beliefs - fair wages, affordable housing, universal childcare, a right to accessible and affordable healthcare, and safe communities. A fair shot for all - that’s what drove our Texas forefathers to build this great state, and that is what drives us today. A belief that no matter who you are, what you look like, where you come from, or who you love if you work hard in Texas, you can make it. Texas Democrats have never shied away from big, bold ideas. From Lyndon B. Johnson to Henry B. Gonzalez to Barbara Jordan to Ann Richards and today’s Democratic champions.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Here is a question worth asking: When a U.S. senator serving on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the Defense Appropriations Committee is denied access to an American military installation during a congressional delegation trip, what exactly is the public supposed to think? Connecticut Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy says he was denied access to Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar on Oct. 6 while traveling through the Middle East. The Pentagon’s decision has raised questions about congressional oversight and transparency surrounding the Iran war. According to The Guardian, Murphy said he was blocked from visiting the major U.S. base in Qatar but he was able to inspect damage at the U.S.
| | Texas Voters Encouraged to Vote Early and Protect Their Right to Be Heard | |
Early in-person voting provides additional time to identify and resolve voting problems, while every eligible voter is urged to use whichever lawful voting method is available.
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas voters are encouraged to cast their ballots during early voting rather than waiting for Election Day. Voting early may reduce exposure to anticipated Election Day intimidation tactics and provide time to identify and address registration, eligibility, or voting-process issues. Those unable to vote early should still vote by any lawful method available to them, including in person on Election Day or by mail if eligible.
Why Vote Early
Registration problems can often be corrected when voters discover them early. Voting early gives voters additional time to obtain documents, contact election officials, and follow the applicable procedures so that their ballots can count. Early voting may also make voters less likely to encounter intimidation at a polling place. Because intimidation tactics are expected to be more likely on Election Day, early in-person voting is the preferred option whenever feasible.

My Truth: Let’s have more conversations

Big Mama had a way of seeing something in you before you could see it in yourself. My grandmother, Lucille “Big Mama” Allen, came from a generation that believed in correction. I grew up in a household where somebody might tell you, “Go get me a switch.” You knew what that meant. But age has taught me something: correction without direction can stop behavior, but it doesn’t always develop the person Sometimes what we call a young man’s problem is really an undeveloped gift. I learned that through mentoring. I once worked with a young man who was gambling and running numbers.

The Marshall Project https://www.themarshallproject.org/
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but comprehensive breast cancer care is sorely lacking in Texas prisons. ctober arrives on the outside wrapped in pink. Cereal boxes are decorated with ribbons. Football players have pink laces in their cleats. And commercials remind you gently, warmly, to schedule your mammogram, as if the hardest part of surviving breast cancer is simply remembering to make the call. I imagine it must feel like the whole world is looking out for you. But I want to tell you about the world that pink never quite reaches, because I live in it, and because some of the women I love have paid for that absence with their lives.

The collection highlighted the artists’ distinctive styles and perspectives while illustrating how artistic expression can communicate ideas, connect generations, and preserve cultural heritage.

DAILY REMEMBRANCE
Grief has colored my world. Such stark contrasts between the then and now.
How bland the white days when I can't see what is before me.
In a fog of non-distinctiveness.
No form or fashion to my existence on these days, and yet, I see light.
Something bright and warm beckoning me.
The dark days of color bring with them such darkness that I can't venture out.
I stay still, sometimes unable to even speak.
Wrapping myself within myself.
Going round and round and round.
Seeing burst of red through the spinning.
Marking my journey before and after.
Marking my journey round and round in what seems a senseless rotation.
Marking my journey from then to now.
