Farm to school champions in Vermont have a lot to be celebrating right now — our farm to school grant program was fully funded for the first time, the innovative Local Foods Incentive was funded to get more Vermont-grown food on lunch trays, and Universal School Meals (breakfast and lunch!) will continue through the 2022-23 school year.

And, we just kicked off the 2022-23 Northeast Farm to School Institute and Adaptation Program at Shelburne Farms. The week was full of inspiration, energy, and passion for connecting the 3C's in school communities across the country.

A great deal of work over many years went into these wins, and none of it was done in isolation. Decades of relationship-building, co-learning, and aligning were at the crux of this effort, and there is still work to be done. Collaboration is — and will continue to be — the key. Read on to learn more.
How can we — schools, towns, states, regions, countries — create the changes we need in our food systems and schools? At Vermont FEED, we know the path is through collaboration. That’s why we’re facilitators of the Northeast Farm to School Collaborative, a community of innovators working together to advance the farm to school movement.
Hands-on learning became interactive online elements. Dispersed specialties became co-learning for new skills. The Vermont Farm to School & Early Childhood Network’s Farm to school webinar series for educators was as much a learning tool for school communities as it was for the Network partners who created it.
The Vermont FEED staff looked back at 2021 with a lot of gratitude. Thank you to everyone in our farm to school community who helped make this work possible!
