CONSERVATIVE CAUCUS ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR A SPECIAL ANTI-CORRUPTION COMMITTEE
This past Monday, the Conservative Caucus announced its support for a Special Anti-Corruption Committee to combine the efforts of multiple parliamentary investigations into the WE Scandal.

The Liberals have shut down or talked-out three committees to avoid investigations into the WE Scandal. Conservatives were thus committed to marathon sittings this week to overcome the Liberal cover-up.

Parliament needs an anti-corruption committee to get the truth in the WE Scandal. Trudeau shut down Parliament and is now trying to paralyze committees, preventing Canadians from getting to the truth on his half-billion-dollar payment to a group that paid over half-a-million dollars to his family.

The complete disregard the Liberals have demonstrated towards the essential work of Parliament and the Prime Minister’s habitual ethics violations are deeply alarming. Hence, Conservative we will not stop until the entire truth is exposed.

In contrast, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh stated in a recent interview with “Follow Up,” a Huffington Post political podcast, that he and his caucus could support the minority Trudeau Government for its entire four year mandate

CANADA REVENUE AGENCY RESUMING ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES IN NOVEMBER
The Canada Revenue Agency has confirmed it will resume two additional activities next month. In November 2020, all small business income tax and GST/HST audits will resume as will all audit activities related to registered plans.

Recently, the CRA’s GST/HST programs began resuming compliance operations with a focus on support and education. This includes contacting GST/HST registrants to ensure their account information is correct and up-to-date, and offering reminders and assistance to help them meet their remitting and filing obligations.

Starting in October, additional emphasis will be placed on chronic and high-risk delinquent filers who are required to collect and remit GST/HST. This includes raising s.299(1) assessments, if needed.

If you have to file GST/HST returns, but have not done so, any refund or rebate you are entitled to will be held until all required returns are filed. If you are a sole proprietor or partnership, your personal income tax refund will also be held.

In addition, small and medium enterprises as well as sponsors, promoters and holders of registered plans may receive a letter to inform and educate them on common areas of non-compliance. Errors found may not result in a re-assessment, but rather in an information review with the business, and be revisited for correction in future years.

Please continue to check the webpage, CRA and COVID-19: Resuming business activities, to have the most up-to-date information about CRA programs that are resuming, and what that means for tax preparers and their clients.
JUSTIN TRUDEAU CANNOT HIDE TRUTH ABOUT
COVID-19 PANDEMIC FROM CANADIANS
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Trudeau Liberals’ failures have cost Canadians their lives, jobs and time. These include:

  • telling Canadians that there was no person-to-person spread of
COVID-19;
  • telling Canadians that border control measures and masks didn’t work;
  • Sending critical supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE) to China when we had a shortage;
  • abdicating responsibility for the pandemic to the provinces;
  • failing to ensure Canadians have access to rapid and at-home testing options;
  • and shutting down the federal pandemic early warning system, just months before COVID-19.

Given Justin Trudeau’s pandemic failures, Canadians deserve to know what evidence the Liberal government has relied on to make decisions, and to see a concrete plan to protect their health and our economy going forward.

That is why the Conservative Caucus' Health Critic tabled a motion at the Health Committee calling on the Trudeau government to release documents related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet instead of supporting the common sense motion, Liberal Health Committee members first dragged their feet, and then voted to shut down the committee meeting entirely.

These are the same outrageous cover-up tactics the Liberals are using to block investigations into Justin Trudeau’s unethical behaviour in the WE Scandal. Canadians deserve the truth, whether its related to Liberal corruption or incompetence. More than seven months into the pandemic, Canadians still don’t have access to rapid testing.

On Monday, October 19th, the Health Committee will again meet to discuss the Conservative Health Critic's motion. Liberal MPs will have a choice to make - to again cover up the truth, or to be transparent with Canadians.

I hope that all can agree that Canadians deserve to know how their government is managing a health crisis.
