So incredibly important for health & vitality
One of the most important factors in aging, the development of degenerative diseases - and death - is the decrease in hormones that work to keep us healthy and strong in very many ways.

CHOLESTEROL

Sits at the top of that cascade. Oh, yes, not a villain after all...

Without cholesterol you are dead, and without enough you are not healthy.

From cholesterol we then make two stellar prohormones in the adrenal glands

DHEA
&
PREGNENOLONE

One naturopathic physician said, "Well, I don't like to replenish hormones, because losing your hormones is natural."

My reply? "That's right. There's nothing more natural than death!"

I prefer to use the "natural" to thwart the "natural."

Today I'll be talking about these wondrous players and how to use them to your advantage.

Pregnenolone
Last week I talked about pregnenolone and its protective role in Parkinson's disease.
What is "pregnenolone?"
"Pregnenolone is a hormone naturally produced in the body by the adrenal glands.
Pregnenolone is also made from cholesterol, and is the starting material in the production of testosterone, progesterone, cortisol, estrogen and other hormones. Because the body uses it biochemically as starting material, pregnenolone is sometimes referred to as a “precursor” or “pro-hormone”.
DHEA
What is DHEA?
"Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is a steroid produced by the adrenal glands and is the most abundant one found in humans. DHEA may be transformed into testosterone, estrogen or other steroids. It is found in the body as DHEA or in the sulfated form known as DHEA-S. One form is converted into the other as needed."
How to use DHEA & Pregnenolone
DHEA and Pregnenolone are available in supplement forms.

DHEA: For men, generally 25-50 mg daily; for women 10-25 mg daily in micronized capsule form or 13 mg daily or every other day in a vaginal suppository due to its optimal absorption and conversion.

Pregnenolone: I generally recommend 30 mg daily in a micronized capsule form.
