VAST Board meeting - February 20, 9:30am, by ZOOM. Members are invited. Please reply to newsletter for information.
VAST Demonstration - February 3, 6:45pm
Join Us! Mark Warner will be our guest artist.
Members are welcome to Zoom the February 3 VAST meeting which will start at 6:45pm on Wednesday.

Mark Warner grew up on the Welsh coast. He received art training in Fine Art at Newport. His intrigue with the coast still powerful, he located his studio on the Shropshire/Wales border, near the coast.

Warner’s paintings follow the detailed charcoal sketches he constructs from observation, notes, and photos. But once he paints, often in plein aire, he loosens the image using line and color to define it. As he says, he “adores using color while interpreting light and a love for the materials.” Warner often uses bright, non-local color to increase intensity and contrast. He is skilled in a wide variety of media -- oil, acrylic, pastels and watercolor – and surfaces including paper, board, and canvas.

Warner enjoys giving presentations, workshops and teaching as well as organizing trips to France and Italy. Check out his informative website at brushmark.co.uk.

Outdoor Interactive Sculpture Call - Lewisville
Eligibility: Country: United States
Budget: $90,000
Deadline: 2/28/21

The City of Lewisville has released a Request for Qualifications for artists who wish to work on a public art project to celebrate the culture of the Chin refugee community in Lewisville, Texas. There are more than 4,000 Chin residents in Lewisville, many of whom endured great hardships and made a 1,500-mile journey on foot in order to escape oppression in their home country of Burma (now called Myanmar). This community has settled and grown in Lewisville and now represents the second-largest ethnic group in the city. Even so, the Chin story is not well known by many residents and visitors in Lewisville.

The City is interested in commissioning an artist or group of artists to create a public art piece that can tell the Chin story and celebrate their rich cultural heritage. The permanent stone sculpture will be installed in a city park located very near Chin neighborhoods and churches.
