As the only program of its kind in the world, it has opened opportunities for FAU high school students to engage in the laboratories of Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience, giving them access to world-class research and scientific discoveries as part of their curriculum. On Friday, May 13, a graduation ceremony was held for the inaugural class of 23 researchers, who have published four peer-reviewed research papers and won over $10,000 in grant funding in their two short years in the program!
The students wore a special turquoise Max Planck stole, signifying the completion of their journey at FAU High School – Jupiter Campus, which they received the night of their senior research symposium.

On Friday, May 6, Randy Blakely, Ph.D., executive director, FAU Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute, gave a commencement address at the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science graduation ceremony. During his address, Blakely relayed how tragic family events, a willingness to take risks, and the support of teachers, mentors and others unseen, placed him on a path to a career in neuroscience. He encouraged the graduates to be confident that their education had provided them with the ability to veer away from the roads they may have expected to travel and still reach the destination they should have been heading to in the first place.
