The Sunshine Baseball League hit it out of the ballpark this year with 17 teams (3 age divisions) in participation while also continuing the tradition of the baseball skills academy for youngsters. Altogether, the league provided over 300 players ages 5-18 a chance to learn skills, play summer baseball and engage in healthy outdoor fun.
One of the best parts of Sunshine Baseball League is the opportunity of scholarships for qualifying families, so that all children can play. Quality equipment is provided as well as authentic jerseys, based on Major League Baseball teams, instilling a sense of pride when each player steps up to bat and on the fields.
This pride is evident on each player’s face as local high school students enthusiastically announce the names and numbers on the public address system. Through a partnership with Germanna Community College’s Gladys P. Todd Academy, student announcers serve as role models and supporters for the younger team members.
The Gladys P. Todd Academy program is designed for under-served high school students in the City of Fredericksburg and the county of Spotsylvania to increase college preparation and the completion of an associate degree, concurrent with a high school diploma. Financial support is provided by the Sunshine Lady Foundation, Germanna Community College Foundation and local community partners. The Sunshine Baseball League is most certainly a labor of love.
Sunshine Baseball League would like to thank Germanna Community College, Grand Slam and Home Run Sponsors, coaches, players, parents and everyone who contributed and continues to support the Sunshine Baseball League.
