February is the month in which we focus on romantic love with Valentine’s Day. This year, due to the movable feast of Easter, Lent begins on Valentine’s Day as well. We will worship on Ash Wednesday, February 14, at 7pm in the sanctuary, and ashes will be offered before and after worship.
When I think about it, what greater love is there than the love shown for us by Jesus Christ? That love which makes all love possible, from romantic love to brotherly or sisterly love, or love in service to others; it is all made possible by Lent.
Lent derives from a word that means “to lengthen.” It is associated with spring, that after the darkness of winter, the days get longer and warmer. It is the springtime of our souls, when we nurture our faith and life.
As we gather once again for mid-week worship and dinners during Lent (no dinner Ash Wednesday!), and as we focus on Pastor Peters' devotional book and the names of God, may we all realize the eternal love of God is always with us, and that he also died for us. As Jesus gave us his love, so we love each other. This is indeed a month for love in so many ways, but chiefly it is the love of Christ we hold dear, and that makes all of our love and loved ones possible!
In Christ,
Pastor Jeff Ruby, Lead Pastor
