This review is about The Warmth of Other Suns, the Epic Story of America's Great Migration.
by Isabel Wilkerson.
What makes this book so compelling despite it's compilation of so many historical facts (which in themselves are often astonishing), are the contributions of three distinct individuals, Ida Mae, George and Robert. These individuals and their families took a leap of faith to a new area far from what had been their life-long homes in the South. It is always interesting for me to hear what motivates people to do the things
they do and there is such clarity in the way Wilkerson describes each situation faced by black people enduring, and then attempting to escape the hardships of racism. As the reader, you are constantly faced with the question; what would you have done in each situation? How would you have felt if everyone around you was saying you are less-than? And the question that still lingers; what are the latest obstacles and humiliations facing black people today? Which leads to the most important question; what are we, as Americans brought up on the written concept that "all men are created equal", going to finally do about it. ~Ann Adams

Library Spotlight on Teen Graphic Novels
On the surface, graphic novels resemble comic books, except that they have the length and depth that comes with narrative. Japanese graphic novels are called manga. mahn-guh. If you’re looking at that word and wondering if you should say it like mango with an A on the end,
well—yes and no. The common American pronunciation is main-guh, but the Japanese pronunciation is closer to You can find a variety of manga in our Teen Graphic Novel section, including two series by author Yoshitoki Ōima. A Silent Voice is a completed series about a boy who seeks atonement from the deaf girl he bullied as a sixth grader; whereas, To Your Eternity is an ongoing fantastical science fiction series that follows the path of an immortal shape-shifting being. If you decide to check out any of the manga in our collection—whether from our Juvenile, Teen, or Adult sections—keep in mind that in Japan, texts are read from right to left, starting in the upper right corner.
