Associate Superintendent's Messages

We are halfway through the school year and have done excellent work ensuring our students get what they need to succeed. The district has held four District Equity Team meetings since September 2022.  A feedback loop is developed to help you better understand our equity initiative and our role as practitioners in advancing our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity.

This feedback loop framework is a communication tool to help you see how the professional learning and work of the District Equity Team is to flow from equity team meetings to school staff and students in the classroom and, conversely, from the classroom back to the District Equity Team.  When making data-driven and school improvement decisions, it is paramount that an equity lens approach is used to ensure that opportunities and access are afforded to all students.

See the below Equity Lens Infographic to help you ask the right questions as you make data-driven and school-improvement decisions.

First Semester Student Discipline

There is much to celebrate from the first semester of the 22-23 school year in terms of student discipline. Compared to the first semester of the 21-22 school year, there was a 49% decrease in office referrals at the elementary level and a 14% decrease in office referrals at the secondary level. This is in part due to efforts of school staff to strengthen relationships with students, practice positive behavioral interventions and supports, and strengthen classroom management techniques. Additionally, the strengthening of in-house mental health support and further development of SEL programs such as Second Step and The Leader in Me have contributed to these changes.

We still have work to do to support students to do their best behaviorally, which will carry over to their academic performance. District and Building Leadership Teams will analyze discipline data more deeply to identify patterns and provide support for students.
