Hey Trinity,

Let's take a few minutes and get to know your Trinity Trustees team!

Who are Trinity’s Trustees?

Michael Klugh (Chair), Harvey Hansen (Vice Chair), Ann Joyner, Ann Hutchinson, Elizabeth Mangum, Floyd Stroup, John Peters, Karen Baker, and Ned Woodard

What do the Trustees do at Trinity?

  • oversee, supervise, and maintain all property belonging to Trinity UMC so that the ministries of the congregation can be highly effective (including parsonage)
  • report annually to the charge conference on the state of the church’s property, equipment, investments, and resources
  • receive and administer all gifts made to the congregation; make certain that all trust funds of the congregation are invested properly
  • ensure that the articles of incorporation of the congregation are kept up to date
  • maintain adequate insurance coverage and develop appropriate risk management policies
  • submit to the committee on finance the annual budget requests

We are so fortunate to serve such a faithful and giving congregation. In my 26 years of attending TUMC, I’ve never heard the word “No” spoken; we are blessed to have so many faithful servants always willing to say “YES”. Even as Trinity’s infrastructure ages, many work tirelessly to form and execute plans to make our campus a better & safer place to worship tomorrow, next month, and in the years to come. As you look around Trinity’s campus, 2022 has seen many upgrades. Honestly, we’re just scratching the surface… there’s much more to come but being a good steward of the money is also our charge.

What have we done in 2022?

The 4 most obvious upgrades are the LED Wall and the Audio System in the sanctuary, repairs to Building C’s roof, and flooring upgrades to building A in the preschool areas. The audio system hadn’t been upgraded since 2008, and its age was beginning to show. There were dead spots in certain pews that made hearing difficult. The projector needed to be replaced, but upgrading it based on our sanctuary’s layout became cost prohibitive, so we chose the LED technology route. After more than 20 years of the sun & weather beating down on building C’s roof, it was time for some maintenance and preventive maintenance, which should see the roof another 20-30 years. And finally, Trinity’s Preschool director, Kathy Curry, obtained grant money to replace the flooring in building A in the preschool areas and other various upgrades. Here’s a brief snapshot of the decisions we made in 2022 and where the money was spent.

$98,834 is a 30,000ft flyover of decisions the Trustees were entrusted with in 2022, but there is so much more when you fly over at lower levels. Jacque Schlageter, Trinity’s Business Administrator, takes care of all the “everything else we don’t always pay attention to or think of and/or remember”. She keeps the grounds up, pays the utilities, runs payroll, prepares the checks for the finance chair, schedules carpet cleaning, assigns paint projects here & there, chases down contractors, orders supplies, etc.…. the Trustees are so fortunate to work hand in hand with Jacque. We, the Trustees, always receive the credit for the big things that happen at Trinity, but ultimately “Wars are won by Logistics” - Army General John J. Pershing, WWII. We wouldn’t have what we have without Jacque’s day-to-day Logistics Hustle and all the Business Administrators that came before Jacque.

What’s next?

The two biggest projects currently in the works are the Youth canteen room & the Breezeway between building A/B & C. We are working to convert the Youth canteen room into a more useable kitchenette-type space with the direction and assistance from our Youth and the Imagine campaign. Please note: The sink has already been installed ($700). The Breezeway project, the space between buildings A/B & C, first and foremost, needs a major stormwater drainage problem corrected. Once we’re confident in the solution, we’ll move forward with plans to convert the space into a welcoming outdoor social gathering point that can be enjoyed by ALL.

In closing…… thank you for being a faithful congregation! Your financial commitment allows us to provide you with what you want, need, and deserve…. A safe and inviting place to worship.
