MLK Day of Service Read-In
January 20, 2024!
| |
The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service promotes Dr. King's ideals of service, equality, and non-violence. For more than a decade, we've honored this legacy with our annual "Read-In" event. We're excited to announce that this year's event will be on Saturday, January 20th, and we'll be back in-person on the campus of Winston-Salem State University, working in close partnership with Wake Forest University, UNCSA, and others.
The Read-In pairs children from kindergarten to 5th grade with a "Reading Buddy" (typically, a college student) who will lead them through various educational and other activities tied to Dr. King's legacy of service, literacy, and self-sufficiency. At the event, each child will receive one age-appropriate book and one new civil rights-themed book.📚❤️ We'll be planning carefully with our partners and our WSSU hosts to help ensure that we keep both our youth participants and our volunteers as safe as possible, while still relishing the opportunity to be together, building connections and allowing our participants to enjoy the experience of being on a college campus.
**More information coming soon! Be on the lookout for registration information for both participants and volunteers!**
Please reach out to Victoria for any questions or to make sure you get the registration information when it becomes available.
