Fun, Frost, & Fertilizer

View as Webpage

Hello Edward,

Borrowed time; we have been living on frost-free borrowed time for nearly a month. It's time to pay up this coming week. The next few nights are forecast to be 33, 30, 27, and 32 degrees F. Even for weather forecast skeptics like me, that is pretty close to a sure frost. Last time I ran through in some detail the precautions to take. A recap is here. At 27 degrees, I will add that it may be time to shut off and drain any outside water, pipes, and hoses. They are going to need it anyway, so why take chances? OK, enough of the negative stuff, onward to the fun stuff...

Thanks!

Ed

Holiday Workshops are Now Online

It hardly seems possible! Halloween is not even a memory, and the winter workshops are out? The Holiday season is a busy one, and many folks want to be sure to choose before their social calendar fills up. And isn't it way easier to say you have a prior commitment, than to find a way out of that kitchen implement home party you reluctantly agreed to go to? Tina has grown a whole new crop of workshops to choose from; familiar ones for comfort, new ones for adventure.

The Birch Pole, or Solstice Broom, pictured is crafted with fragrant Christmas greens and traditional decorations on a beautiful White Birch pole; the perfect country Christmas decoration. Simply lean this by your entry, or lay it across your mantle. If you build the swag lower, you can sweep out the old year and clean the slate for the new year with a Winter Solstice Broom. Save the pole and reuse for your next DIY project!

Trick or Treat for Plants: Treat Them With Fertilizer

Have you ever heard scratching noises at your door in the middle of the night right around Halloween? You get out of bed to check, and nobody is there? Just a random branch lying on your porch. Some years that may be the only time until next Halloween. Other years it repeats a few days later with a different branch, or even acorns or the like, on your porch. I will solve the mystery for you.

Even though you may not remember, your plants remember. Halloween, when the kids get candy, is one of the times to fertilize your outdoor plants. They are patient. They understand that Trick or Treaters come first. But once November 1st hits, all bets are off! The midnight scratching, and the pinecones hurled at your bedroom windows, all are to remind you to fertilize them!

The easiest way to be able to sleep again is simply to feed them! $29.99 is a small price to pay for sleep. That's all it is, for 25 pounds. Enough for most folk's entire planting areas. Plant-O-Ganic is the same fertilizer that my dad used when I was a kid. It has stood the test of time. There is no newfangled creation that works better. Simple and effective. This is an 8-8-8 fertilizer (which I only mention as some people like to know) that is slow release. As the components break down in the soil, they release at the rate the plant grows.

Simply toss it on the surface of the soil or mulch and walk away. Nothing complicated. Quick, simple, nearly effortless.

Adding it now will give the plant some to work with now, and some to work with early in the spring. This is late enough to prevent new growth, but early enough so that the nutrients can help prepare your plants for the upcoming winter. After Easter you may hear those same strange noises, so be forewarned. Whether you have strawberries or azaleas, maple trees or daylilies, This is the only fertilizer that you need for plants in the ground. I go into a bit more depth on one of my older blog posts. Some stores have seemingly hundreds of different types on the shelf? And yet, with access to nearly every fertilizer in the world, Tina and I choose Plant-O-Ganic for our own use.

Let's make it even easier. Order Plant-O-Ganic online, and you can pick it up, or we will deliver it! If you order over 3 bags, we will deliver it for free! ($10 delivery charge in our market area for 1, 2, or 3 bags.) Order here. Order before November 6th, and have it delivered before November 10.

Order Plant-O-Ganic here. Choose on delivery option.

As the daylength has been shrinking, we will now be closing at 5 pm every day. Thanks for reading. We hope to see you this weekend!
