A Prayer for All as Hurricane Isaias Approaches

(from Psalm 46)

God is our refuge and strength,

  a very present help in trouble.

2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change,

  though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea,

3 though its waters roar and foam,

  though the mountains tremble with its tumult.

Help us, O God, as a hurricane approaches. Bless our preparations. We pray for protection and safety for ourselves and all in the path of the storm.

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,

  the holy habitation of the Most High.

5 God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved;

  God will help it when the morning dawns.

Keep our city and communities safe from harm. Be with those who are working diligently to ensure the public’s safety. Surround our first responders with your merciful protection. Be with those who are most vulnerable: the unhoused, those with physical limitations, those who have few resources for extraordinary times.

10 “Be still, and know that I am God!

  I am exalted among the nations;

  I am exalted in the earth.”

11 The Lord of hosts is with us;

  the God of Jacob is our refuge.

Remind us, O Lord, that you are ever near. May we reach out to our neighbors, help others where we can, and find moments of stillness and peace in the midst of uncertainty.

May the peace of Christ be with you!

Special music will include hymns that support our children in the Communion Workshop. The Sanctuary Choir’s anthem is a beautiful setting of “Panis Angelicus” by Thomas Pavlechko. The organ prelude and postlude are compositions of G.F. Handel.
