We are excited to feature our Director of Youth Development, Coach Trevor Spencer, for FC Richmond's Player Development Program (PDP)and U10 Travel Programs. In addition to Trevor’s role as the Director of Youth Development, he oversees our Total Soccer Training (TST) program which looks to improve the supplemental training aspect of the club.
Trevor started kicking the soccer ball around at age 8 on the streets in Kingston, Jamaica and at 10 years old he started playing for Rae Town Minor League U16 team. “I’ve had nothing but great soccer experiences from my community leagues, to primary school, to high school, to college, and representing my native country Jamaica. I enjoyed training with my teammates, competing against other teams, winning championships, and traveling the world,” Trevor says. Trevor played at VCU and was also on the Jamaican Youth National Team from U14-U23.
His most impactful soccer experiences have come from his teammates and coaches who positively affected his life. “They poured their lives into me, challenged me, and encouraged me to be successful on and off the field. They saw me not just as a soccer player but a valuable human being with potential,” Trevor says.
When asked about what he enjoys most about coaching, Trevor says, “My utmost joy of coaching is caring for each of my players, sharing my knowledge and experiences with them, and watching them play with passion while still having fun.”
In his free time, Trevor enjoys watching soccer on TV, playing Monopoly Deal with his family, playing basketball with Josiah, and thinking of how he can best impact his family, church, and others.
When sharing his best advice with youth soccer players, Trevor says, “Find the right soccer environment to learn, appreciate your coaches/teammates, be the best individual player you are capable of being, and be an unselfish team player.”
We are grateful for Trevor and his commitment to his players and the game!
