East Africa Bible College 21st Graduation!

Well, the last day of the month is coming and our newsletter has just been prepared. For good reason though! This month's big event was the graduation of the Bible students that we have been teaching since we arrived in Kenya. Just yesterday, the students crossed the stage to receive their diplomas in Bible and Theology.

Seven students, six men and one woman, five Kenyans and two Ugandans, seven servants of God, seven of our friends finished their studies and are preparing to go out in ministry.

Words cannot adequately express the love we have for this group. They were our first friends in Kenya, they have let us into their lives, and they have entered ours. We have visited their churches, attended their pre-weddings, traveled the roads together, played Connect 4, completed classes, discussed culture, and become a family.

Congratulations to our friends - Esther, Samuel, Brian, Titus, Steve, Godfrey, and Didas! We love you and are proud of you for dedicating your life to serving the Lord! You will go far!

Momma Chris Comes to Kenya!

This month we hosted Joni (Chris’ mom) and her neighbor April. They came at a very busy time for us, as we were preparing for graduation and saying goodbye for now to students. Despite the busyness, we enjoyed getting to give them a glimpse into what our life has been like this past year and a half. We were grateful to their home churches for helping us acquire some food and toiletry supplies for the Young Moms group as well as the EABC staff that we work with. Joni and April had the unique opportunity to go to each of the houses of the moms to encourage each of them in their own homes. Joni and April also helped us greatly in preparation for the graduation events as they experienced the culture of celebration.

Joni's Reflections on Kenya

We had so many activities from the banquet to graduation. However, the one that left the biggest impression on me concerning the graduates was the night they came to the house for games, food, KFC, chicken and fries, and a movie. That evening, each student had the opportunity to speak from their heart on a personal level to Christopher and Alicia. It was so very special to hear what each of them had to say about my son, their friend, teacher, and fellow servant of Christ. Some made me laugh, some caused a tear to come to my eyes, and they were all precious and sincere. It made me realize no matter where we live or where we come from, there is only one God who we all serve. We are loved treasured and forgiven by that one true God. It was a beautiful picture of Christ that night. Regarding the visit with the moms… I have had several days to reflect on that experience, and still cannot put it into words. I hope I never forget the sacrifices these young mothers are making to support their children. It was truly inspiring and yet heartbreaking at the same time. It’s hard to fathom what they must face on a daily basis. Yet, they do it with a smile and joy in their hearts. Being on the mission field with Christopher and Alicia was truly a blessing, and I am so grateful that I have had this opportunity to watch them as they touch lives for Christ. It truly is a sacrificial lifestyle, and I feel they have embraced such a calling with a joy and contentment. It is obvious they have impacted the people they have been blessed to encounter.

April's Reflections on Kenya

It’s really hard to put into words how amazing this trip has been! God has blessed my heart over and over from getting to know the EABC students and share in their graduation, to meeting so many wonderful people in Kenya who have welcomed us with open arms and hearts. Truly a once in a lifetime experience that I will carry in my heart. Thank you to Chris and Alicia for your hospitality and love!
