HALLOWEEN UPDATE

The Elk Rapids Village Council recommends everyone read the MDHHS press release regarding Halloween. The Council suggests households choosing not to participate in handing out candy keep their porch light off, while those that choose to participate put their porch light on—to serve as a signal for trick-or-treaters. In the downtown River Street business district, trick-or-treaters are asked to travel one-way on sidewalks, rather than criss-crossing River Street. To read the MDHHS COVID-19 recommendations about Halloween trick-or-treating, celebrations, click HERE

Due to COVID, there will not be a Zombie Parade this year.😪 We'll miss those Zombies!

Some of the downtown businesses will be passing out candy.

Short’s Brewing Co. Expansions
Near Completion

New Kettle, New Warehouse, New Packline and New Pull Barn

There’s a saying at Short’s—the only thing constant is change. Since the brewery opened in a renovated hardware store in 2004, change—along with growth and expansion—has been a part of the company’s DNA. 2020 impacted the brewery in ways they didn’t expect—and one in a good way. June saw a 30% increase in sales for the brewery, followed by their busiest July 4th holiday ever. Summer sales trends continued, and resulted in 14% growth over summer 2019. And while 2020 was crazy, the change and expansion didn’t stop.......Continue Reading
Antrim County High Tea for Breast Cancer

Mission: Our primary focus is to assist all individuals living within Antrim County who are not otherwise covered by public or private medical programs or whose personal financial capability would discourage preventative testing.

Until 2009, Antrim County had the highest breast cancer mortality rate in Michigan. Since then, the rate has dropped 36% and we now rank 47th out of 83 counties. Based on current data we can expect 17-19 incidents and 2-4 breast cancer deaths each year. So, while great progress has been made in reducing the mortality rates, we still have a significant challenge in front of us. So, if you need help, or advice, help with care or more, please reach out to us. We’re to help!

Re: News from Raven Hill!

Part of the fun of these weekly updates is getting sidetracked and making new connections in the process! This week, I even got distracted by the word “sidetrack”, which the Merriam Webster dictionary defines “as a position or condition of secondary importance to which one may be diverted.” The first known use of sidetrack was in 1828. But, I digress……Continue Reading Update on October 24, 2020

GOOD WORKS GIVING CAMPAIGN
OCTOBER 1 – OCTOBER 31, 2020

Like many other events cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Rotary Club of Elk Rapids has been forced to cancel two of its’ long-running annual fund-raising events; the Rotary Show and the Harbor Days Chicken BBQ. But, the cancellation of these events doesn’t mean the Rotary Club of Elk Rapids isn’t still committed to partnering with you to raise funds for its’ Good Works Fund.

Listed are the 2019-2020 Good Works Fund grant recipients. Thanks to your past support, these organizations have been able to provide valuable services to those in need. Now, more than ever, these organizations need continued financial assistance.

Please consider making a gift/sponsorship to the Good Works Fund knowing that any amount you give will support community well being during these difficult times.

As a THANK YOU for your generosity, your business name will be featured in the Elk Rapids News, Facebook and on the Rotary Club of Elk Rapids website.
YOU CAN HELP THE SALVATION ARMY OF PETOSKEY RESCUE CHRISTMAS

For the first time in 130 years, The Salvation Army is starting its annual holiday fundraising campaign early across the country in order to rescue Christmas. The funds raised through the organization's iconic red kettles are at risk this year due to COVID-19 while requests for services are at an all-time high.

Village Market and Gas Station
250 Ames St * Elk Rapids (231) 264-5629
The Village Market Giving Tree is just around the corner!

After a lot of thought, we are doing things a little different this year due to the Corona Virus pandemic that has happened…We will be taking monetary donations ONLY this year. We are doing this because we are not supposed to have things coming and going, in and out of the store. So, our plan is to collect money, divide the total by the number of children and order everything proportionately online and have it shipped directly to each child’s home.

We, also, will not be putting up a tree with tags this year. We understand that so many individuals like to shop themselves but we are just unable to do that this year. We feel that this is the best solution to still be able to help the children and not have to cancel the program completely.
In ending, we would need all donations by November 1st, this will give us ample time to get forms turned in and gifts ordered. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at 231-264-5629, ext. 6.

Thank You in advance for your consideration…J

To Donate: Go to your local Village Market and see the cashier for your monetary donation. They are able to add it to your order or you can make checks payable to The Village Market and “The Giving Tree” should be on the memo line.

If you’re in need of assistance: The forms are ONLY at the Village Markets, (Elk Rapids, Rapid City & Central Lake). They will NOT be handed out through the schools this year. This program is for individuals that need a little help at Christmas. All children up to the age of 18, (as long as they are enrolled in school), are eligible.

Merry Christmas!
