Update: 2026 Municipal Industry Custom Pricing (ICP) Repolling

Since WCB-Alberta announced that municipal industry codes would be included in its ICP Re-polling Schedule during the non-specific time period of “2026” we have been working with WCB to obtain more specific timeframes for 2026 municipal re-polling and where possible, coordinating joint ICP member information sessions with WCB at existing municipal conferences.

We have a few progress updates that we would like to provide to membership.

  • WCB originally indicated that its desire was to complete municipal ICP re-polling (Towns, Villages, Municipal Districts, and Cities) by June 30th 2026 but has now agreed to extend this cutoff date until July 31st
  • AMHSA has strongly communicated to WCB the need for financial estimates to be provided to members prior to voting on the impacts of staying in/exiting ICP Program(s) to support informed decision making and they are currently evaluating the feasibility of how/when these can be provided prior to polling – please stay tuned for future updates on this subject.
  • Future member ICP Information Sessions on this subject will be free/open to all municipal industry codes, however, will ideally target attendance from municipal industry codes that are in the same ICP Program(s):
  • Cities and Municipal Districts – Currently participating in CR (waiving of cost relief option)
  • Villages and Towns – Currently participating in CR (waiving of cost relief option) and ER (experience rating option)

Further updates to come.

Update: OHS Code Review Plan

The Government of Alberta’s (GOA) OHS Code Review & 2023-26 OHS Code Review Plan highlighted several areas for review in 2025-26 that included but were not limited to:

  • Part 40: Utility Workers—Electrical
  • Occupational Exposure Limit (OEL) Review
  • Approach to referencing technical standards

AMHSA has provided updates to members throughout 2025-26 on its advocacy and representation efforts while sitting on the GOA’s Occupational Exposure Limits (OEL) and Part 40: Utility Workers—Electrical Technical Working Groups (TWG) and after just attending the final Part 40: Utility Workers—Electrical TWG meeting of 2026 are now able provide a few updates based on information communicated from the GOA.

Now that Phase II (Technical Review) of the GOA OHS Code Review Process is nearing completion, the next phase that will occur is Phase III (Public Consultation) on proposed OHS Code changes, after which public feedback is analyzed and proposed changes adjusted as appropriate. AMHSA unfortunately does not have specific dates to communicate on the upcoming Public Consultation, only that it is anticipated to occur in late spring/early summer 2026. We will provide additional details on this important subject when they are provided to AMHSA.
