Rome Club Hears Straight Talk From Health Department Doc On COVID
Dr. Gary Voccio, Health Director for the 10-county Georgia Department of Public Health Northwest District headquartered in Rome spoke to the Rome club via Zoom on the latest news dealing with the COVID-19 virus.
While Dr. Voccio outlined a number of statistics dealing with Rome and Northwest Georgia and why it was considered a "hot spot" by the White House, here are highlights of his presentation..
-
WEAR A MASK OR FACE COVERING - He told the Exchange members he strongly recommended wearing masks for all citizens. He said there was no doubt everyone adhering to this simple habit would go a long way toward turning the virus curve down.
-
STAY AWAY FROM LARGE GATHERINGS - Again, a proven fact that large gatherings where social distancing (6 feet of separation) is not practiced will spread the virus. Avoid these.
-
WHAT ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS -
- Since the football season is right upon us, Dr. Voccio felt the players could wear masks while on the field under helmets since many do already on cold nights. Also, the players are outside which would help curb the travel of any virus particles.
-
NO FANS IN THE STANDS according to the Doctor because it would be nearly impossible to force social distancing and one person could end up infecting a huge number of people....but that is a decision that would have to be made by someone else and not him.
-
WASH YOUR HANDS - Dr. Voccio stressed this should be done regularly since people inadvertently touch their face, eyes, or mouth and this could easily infect themselves to the virus.

If Your
Club Is Not Meeting It's Time To Start
|
|
There are safe ways for you to meet. Based on YOUR membership, virtual meetings may be for your club. It really is easy to set up, members can be in via their computers or phones, and you can have speakers on line as well.
Need some help setting it up, contact our District President-Elect Thad Paulk, 229-392-2175, and let him explain to you how easy it is.
Or, you could have a "hybrid" meeting withsome members meeting, following COVAD standards, and some on line.

Here's An Idea
For Your Club
Show Support For Your Town's Essential Workers
Many clubs are asking what they can still do in service to their community during this COVID-19 pandemic? We are hearing about some of our Georgia District clubs showing appreciation to the "essential workers" of their community by providing them with a box lunch or supper while they are on duty. This can be taken to hospital workers, or arrange a drive thru for police, fire, and public works personnel on duty. You may have an even better idea. Remember, don't forget to report your efforts as a Project of Service under Community Service. The Rome Club has provided almost 1.000 meals.
First and Foremost...STAY SAFE!

Support Candidates,
But NOT At An Exchange Meeting
|
|
"The National Exchange Club and local clubs chartered by it are nonpartisan, educational organizations. All activities of local Exchange Clubs should be selected and supported purely on their own merits, without any alliances with political groups. An Exchange Club should not give endorsement to any individual for political office, nor should it attempt to influence legislation. A club should not permit itself to become an instrument of any political party that may seek its influence, nor should it permit itself to be used for a political purpose by an individual or group." |
Lisa Glisson, President of the Georgia Exchange Foundation For Prevention of Child Abuse has announced our CAP foundation has awarded $4,875 in grants among five different Georgia CAP programs. In making the presentation Lisa's letter to the agencies took notice of the increased pressure on the local centers and agencies and told them, "We are all reading and hearing that your caseloads have increased over the past few months for many reasons. Our hope and prayer is that these funds will be a blessing to your center, staff and clients and that you will see a decline very soon!"
Lisa said grants were made possible by "passing the hat" when fundraising features normally held at convention were not held. Special thanks for generous contributions of Kay Griffin, Duncan McClusky. The Exchange Club of Macon, The Exchange Club of Valdosta. The Exchange Club of Waycross, The Exchange Club of Statesboro, The Exchange Club of Albany. The Exchange Club of Tifton, and The GA District Exchange Clubs.
