Vestry Candidates for 2025
We give thanks for the wonderful and dedicated vestry members who have given so much of their time and talent to shepherd St. Andrew’s through the last three years: Lisa Garrett, Co-Junior Warden Nick Klett, Betty Self, and Co-Junior Warden Dirk Siegmund. They have shared their gifts with us, and we are grateful.
We are pleased to announce our Vestry slate for the class of 2025. Thank you to the following nominees for their willingness to serve: Tim Fleming, Spencer Musick, Janice Cox Pollard, and Celeste Williams.
You can learn more about our candidates in the Vestry Slate 2025 Special Edition, emailed on January 23, or by clicking on the button below, which will take you to their responses to questions about their background and service, what they love about St. Andrew's, and how they help to serve during their time on the Vestry.

Second Weekly Star Word Reflection for Epiphany
Week of Sunday, February 2
As we have done in the past, this year we will offer star word reflection questions during Epiphany. The invitation for this week is given below.
Look for a scripture passage that resonates with you in light of your word. Read a different biblical translation of the same passage. Did the passage help you see your word in a new way? How might God be speaking to you through this passage? Are there other places where your word appears or is illuminated in the Bible?
| |
About Star Words: Earlier this month, we introduced Star Words, star-shaped cards, each with a word on one side. As we consider together what it means to Look for the Light in this Season of Epiphany, reflecting on these words can serve as a simple spiritual practice, inviting you to set your intention for the new year. You are invited to choose a star for the year ahead and to consider how God might be speaking to you through the word written on the star. This simple spiritual practice encourages each of us to hold, engage, and explore a word closely over time.
Join Us for an Epiphany Formation Offering for Adults—The Third Evangelist: What Makes Luke So Special
February 9, 16, & 23
Right after 10 a.m. Worship (Cloister)
The Gospel of Luke provides a veritable treasure trove of narratives found in no other New Testament Gospel. From Mary’s soaring Magnificat to the Parable of the Good Samaritan, Luke tantalizes his audience with some of the church’s most beloved songs and stories. His presentation of Jesus’ Resurrection—at Emmaus and in Jerusalem—is simply stunning in its narration and implications. Oh, and there is more …. You are invited to join freelance scholar Samuel Moss (MDiv, Duke University) in a three-week exploration guaranteed to intrigue the mind as well as the heart.

Winter Emergency Shelter—How to Volunteer in January, February, and March
St. Andrew’s is supporting the Winter Emergency Shelters at local churches that have partnered with Greensboro Urban Ministry to provide a warm place to sleep and an evening meal to men experiencing homelessness. There are several different ways to help, including joining with others to prepare and deliver a meal for 15 people, serving as a check-in host, or being an overnight volunteer. Click on the button below to go to the First Presbyterian Church website, where you will find links to signup pages for helping with meals, evening shifts, and overnight shifts, as well as a link to FAQs for volunteers. The shelter will be open through the end of March. Please sign up today! We will be providing dinner at First Baptist on Wednesday, March 12.

Support St. Andrew’s EYC With Their Favorite Thing—Food!
Our EYC is growing, and they’re growling too—oh wait, that’s just their tummies. We love to provide dinner at the end of our youth meetings as a chance to sit down together, break bread, and share time around the table with friends. If you are interested in providing dinner for the EYC, we have several dates open this winter and spring. Dinner can be as simple as pizza or as complicated as you like. Email Martha-Wade Chaires at the link below for more information or to sign up!

Beware of “Phishing” Texts, Emails, and Other Online Scams
From time to time, “phishing” email messages appearing to come from the Rev. Ginny Bain Inman and other staff are sent to parishioners and others. These may include meeting requests or requests for gift cards, and some include a copied profile photo to make the impersonation more convincing. Please be careful when you notice unexpected messages, and know that Rev. Ginny and St. Andrew’s will always make requests through our official communications channels (such as our eNews, bulletin, and website), and never through direct email appeals. Please mark suspicious messages as spam, block the sender, and delete the message. If you have a question or concern about such a message, please contact the office.

Our weekly Burgundy Bag food donations are an outward and visible sign of St. Andrew’s mission of “feeding the hungry.” Each week, our donations are delivered to the One Step Further Food Pantry to support their vital efforts to relieve food insecurity in Greensboro.
Most needed food items include: rice, pasta, beans (dried and canned), canned vegetables, and canned meats and fish.
Please pick up and drop off in the Sanctuary narthex and the hallway by the Chapel. Thank you for helping St. Andrew's feed the hungry. Contact Doug Sanecki with questions.

EYC A.M. Chili Prep for Costa Rica Fundraiser this Sunday
Feb. 2, 9-10:30 a.m. (Herman Hall Kitchen)
This Sunday we'll kick off the first of our Costa Rica pilgrimage fundraisers by making delicious chili to sell by the quart to our St. Andrew's fam! It's a busy Sunday, so we're splitting up the work between church and the annual meeting in the morning and EYC in the afternoon. We know that everyone may not be able to make it to everything this week, but we hope you'll come and help out with as much as you can. Chaperones are welcome to come and pitch in too!
From 9 am until around 10:30 we'll be downstairs in the Herman Hall kitchen chopping veggies under the guidance of Chef Charles Kappauf. We'll break during the announcements to go upstairs for a blessing of the beautiful painting we began last spring, and which Jill Lowe and her granddaughter finished for us this fall, and will stay for Communion with our families. After church, head to the Parish Hall where we will pre-sell quarts of chili--and some really awesome new St. Andrew's stickers--during the annual meeting.
Head home, rest up, and hit your homework, because we'll be back in the Parish Hall kitchen to cook the chili from 4-6:30 pm. If you can't get there right at 4, no worries! We'll see you when you can show up!
Remember that the more we raise, the less our trip will cost, so let's work together to make this fundraiser a success. See you on Sunday!

Come to EYC: Chili Edition
Feb. 2, 4-6:30 p.m. (Parish Hall Kitchen)
This week in EYC, we are helping to make chili to support our youth who are going to Costa Rica this summer! Join Chef Charles and Sous Chef Shelley in the Parish Hall to create quarts of yummy chili that we'll sell to raise money for the trip. If you've ever made chili before, you know that while it's simmering you have time to chill (see what we did there?). Lucky for us, we have a couple of special guests coming in to talk about Bishop Budde's sermon during the Inaugural Prayer Service. Why did she ask the new President to show mercy? Why are there so many mixed opinions about her plea? And what does it mean for us? We'll have time to talk it through together. EYC is from 5:00–6:30 tonight, but the chili-making begins at 4:00, so come when you can! We can't wait to see you tonight!

Anglican Cycle of Prayer: The Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand, and Polynesia
This province principally includes New Zealand (Aotearoa is the Māori name for New Zealand) along with Fiji, Tonga and Samoa. Church Missionary Society work among the Māori in New Zealand early in the 19th century was followed by church development among Anglican settlers arriving in mid-century, which quickly led to Anglicanism becoming the largest religious denomination in the country. New Zealand Anglicans have been especially sensitive to cultural diversity, asserting that it is “the right of every person to choose any particular cultural expression of the faith.” Its A New Zealand Prayer Book (1989) is considered by many to be the finest example of Anglican liturgy emerging from the liturgical renewal movement late in the last century.
