EfM Has a New Curriculum—Come Learn More at an Informational Meeting

June 15 after 10 a.m. Worship

Do you enjoy meaningful conversation with trusted seekers? Do you question different interpretations of biblical passages and want to explore them more deeply? Do you seek fellowship that goes beyond coffee hour? Are you seeking God and desire others to accompany you on your search? EfM (Education for Ministry) has recently put together a curriculum with integrated videos, podcasts, and articles to enliven our study of the Christian tradition. Additionally, EfM has a new path for people who would be interested in a one-year exploration called Wide Angle. These different options could be great for alumni who want to revisit their study, or someone who wants to put a toe into a new opportunity. Interested? Please come to our informational meeting on June 15 following 10 a.m. worship. Please contact Brenda Swearingin or Tricia de Beer with any questions, using the links below.

We Pray For

Anglican Cycle of Prayer: The Anglican Church of Melanesia

Nearly 170 years after the first ship in the series was launched, in March 2024 Anglicans blessed the newest vessel of the Anglican Church of Melanesia, Southern Cross 10, replacing the wooden-hulled ship No. 9 with a sturdier steel-hulled vessel. The ship continues to provide transportation for its missions among the scattered islands and amidst the challenging weather conditions of the Pacific. From New vessel blessed for the Church of Melanesia | Nelson Anglicans Kōrero

This province, closely connected historically to Anglicans in New Zealand, includes the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and the French trust territory of New Caledonia. With a clever double-meaning, in 1849 the Anglican mission named a ship serving the islands The Southern Cross. It was followed by a succession of ships, and Southern Cross No. 10 still functions today. New Zealand bishops consecrated John Patteson as the first Bishop of Melanesia in 1861. A decade later he and others were martyred, mistakenly associated with the seizure of men from the islands to work in Fiji and Queensland. The theological college in the Solomons is named for Bishop Patteson, and in our Episcopal Church’s Holy Women, Holy Men calendar, we remember him on September 20th. The Anglican Church of Melanesia became a province in the Communion in 1975.
