Join Us for Worship!

Sunday at 10 a.m.

Each Sunday we worship in person and online. We are always glad when you worship with us. Nursery care is available during worship, and we offer Children's Ministry time as well as activity bags to keep little hearts and hands engaged. After worship, join us for Coffee & Conversation in the Parish Hall.

New & Continuing Buildings & Grounds Team Members:

Join Us on Second Sundays after Worship

Next Meeting: May 11 (Library)

At St. Andrew’s, we are blessed with a beautiful church and grounds. We are also fortunate to have a core buildings and grounds team, and we are seeking additional members with skills, experience, or simply a desire to serve. Led by our Junior Warden, Jonathan Stephens, the team helps with needed care and improvements, organizes spring and fall workdays, and assists in responding to emergent maintenance needs. If you would like to join in this hands-on ministry, please email Jonathan at the link below. And join us this Sunday after worship in the library for a brief meeting.

Mother’s Day (and Every Day) is a Good Day to Feed the Hungry

Support Needed for Greensboro Urban Ministry’s Episcopal Breakfasts

Each Tuesday, Episcopal volunteers gather before dawn at Greensboro Urban Ministry (G.U.M.) to cook and serve a welcoming hot breakfast to 150+ people who are struggling through the deprivations of life without stable housing. Support is needed for this essential ministry. If you are looking for a meaningful way to honor a mother figure in your life this Mother’s Day, please consider a gift to G.U.M. to feed the hungry in our community. The cost to sponsor a Tuesday breakfast is $312. Every contribution is deeply appreciated. Gifts can be made by mail (Greensboro Urban Ministry, 305 W. Gate City Blvd., Greensboro 27406); online (using link below), and by phone (call Tori Kallam at 346-271-5959, ext. 320). However you give, please make sure to note “Episcopal Breakfast” as the recipient.

Serving Others by Cooking for Abundant Life’s Community Dinner

Meal Dropoff May 11 & 13

St. Andrew’s provides entrees and veggie sides on the second Tuesday of each month for Abundant Life’s weekly community dinners. Our next day to serve is May 13. To help, sign up using the link below, and prepare an entrée for 8 or a veggie side for 6. Please use disposable pans labeled with your name and the dish. You can cook in advance and put your dish in the church’s freezer (in the pantry near the door labeled “Butler’s Closet”) by Sunday morning, May 11. Or drop off the afternoon of May 13 at the address on the signup sheet. In providing this meal, you are serving God by serving others. Barbara Cooke is happy to answer questions and can be reached at 336-521-0040 or by email at the link below.

An Invitation to Learn More about Our Prayer Shawl Ministry

Next Meeting, May 14 at 2 p.m.

(Library)

St. Andrew's Prayer Shawl Ministry is dedicated to providing comfort and solace as well celebration and joy. The making and giving of knitted or crocheted shawls, blankets, and scarves is a personal outreach from the creators to the recipients.

Following the original Prayer Shawl Ministry model, our group meets every other Wednesday, 2–4 p.m., with some members working from home. All are welcome to join us, and lessons, materials, and patterns are available. Once shawls are completed, they are blessed. (Our next batch of shawls will be blessed in this Sunday's worship service.) They are then ready for delivery wherever the need is greatest, in our parish and beyond—including our regular donations to High Point Regional Hospitals’ chaplaincy programs. To learn more about this ministry, please contact Lynda Sanecki using the link below, or join us for our next meeting on May 14.

You're Invited to a Welcome Reception for Rev. Gus

May 18 after Worship (Parish Hall)

As announced last week, we officially welcomed the Rev. Gus Chrysson to St. Andrew's as Associate Rector on May 1. We look forward to celebrating the occasion at a Welcome Reception on May 18, when Rev. Gus will also be one of four guest panelists for our discussion on vocation. Come celebrate and welcome Rev. Gus!

Join us for Part 2 of Career, Calling, Coincidence: Stories of Vocation & Faith

May 18 after Worship (Parish Hall)

Each of us has a unique story—and all our stories have similarities. Join us after worship in the Parish Hall May 18 for Part 2 of our series on vocation as Rev. Ginny moderates a discussion about some of the fascinating stories in our beloved parish family. We’ll hear from Rev. Gus, Jorge Chaires, Catherine Clifton, and Barbara Watkins. The panelists include a musician (or two), a designer and builder of structural steel sculptures, an editor of a professional journal, and a construction engineer / project manager. Can you guess who’s who? We hope you will join us as we celebrate and learn more about their stories—and perhaps our own—and discover how we’re all part of the ongoing story of God’s people. We will gather in the Parish Hall following worship.

For Families: Our Communion Celebration Continues

May 18 During Worship

There is no Children's Communion Celebration on Sunday, May 11, but on May 18, we will have the last of our three-series for all interested pre-K through 5th graders. On that special Sunday, we will all sit together at the front of the church and take Communion as a group. Please email Martha-Wade Chaires at the link below with questions and to let us know if you can participate.

Send Us Your Class of 2025 Graduates’ Names

Submit by May 21

As part of our Youth Sunday service on June 1, we will pray for and recognize all Class of 2025 high school and higher ed graduates. Please help us complete our list! Using the link below, email each graduate’s first and last name, school name, and degree to Susan Frye, Parish Administrator, by May 21 for inclusion in the June 1 bulletin. You are also welcome to include a sentence about your grad’s hopes, dreams, or next steps if you would like. We look forward to celebrating these Class of 2025 milestones.

We Need Your Burgundy Bag Donations!

Our weekly Burgundy Bag food donations are an outward and visible sign of St. Andrew’s mission of “feeding the hungry.” Each week, our donations are delivered to the One Step Further Food Pantry to support their vital efforts to relieve food insecurity in Greensboro.

Most needed food items include: rice, pasta, beans (dried and canned), canned vegetables, and canned meats and fish.

Please pick up and drop off in the Sanctuary narthex and the hallway by the Chapel. Thank you for helping St. Andrew's feed the hungry. Contact Doug Sanecki with questions.

Come to the Corner Market This Saturday!

Mark Your Calendars for Our Annual Parent Gathering at the Taylors’!

Sunday, June 1, at 5 p.m.

(117 S. Tremont Dr.)

A spring Parent Gathering at Anna and Craig Taylor’s house has become a true favorite tradition over the past few years, and we can’t wait to gather again on their awesome covered porch to meet with old and new members of the St. Andrew’s grown-up crew. A signup for food and drink will be coming soon, but go ahead and save the date—June 1 at 5 p.m. We can’t wait to see you there!

EfM Core Practices Might Be Right for You!

Do you enjoy meaningful conversation with trusted seekers?

Do you question different interpretations of biblical passages and want to explore them more deeply?

Do you seek fellowship that goes beyond coffee hour?

Are you seeking God and desire others to accompany you on your search?

Are you an incredibly busy parent who can't sign on for three hours of preparation and learning each week?

Parents: Help Us Explore Education for Ministry: Core Practices

This fall we hope to offer a special Education for Ministry (EfM): Core Practices class. EfM is a formative program designed to help individuals respond to their call to Christian service, and includes studies on the Old Testament, New Testament, Church History, and Theology. While the traditional EfM is a four-year program requiring three hours per week of study and preparation, Core Practices is a condensed, one-year program requiring about an hour per week of study, plus a weekly meeting (in-person or online). We are in the process of forming this exciting opportunity in a way that we hope will benefit St. Andrew’s parents, and we would love your input! If you are interested in learning more or attending a Q&A session, please email Martha at the link below.

We Pray For

Anglican Cycle of Prayer: The Episcopal Church in Jerusalem & The Middle East

There is a second hospital in the Diocese of Jerusalem, St. Luke’s in Nablus, in the West Bank. It has been serving the region for over a century. (The first, much in the news recently, is the Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza. An Israeli air strike destroyed part of it, the last fully functional hospital in Gaza City, in mid-April 2025.)

From Healthcare - The Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem

The Anglican Bishopric in Jerusalem, established in 1841, was intended to assert a “Protestant” presence in the Holy Land, not to create Anglican congregations. But there were missionary endeavors – controversially, an effort to convert Jews, and growing interest in Anglicanism by Palestinians. Eventually an archbishop presided over Anglicans in all of the Middle East. In 1976 the Diocese of Jerusalem came into being, including Palestine, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon and Syria; Jerusalem is its center. The province now consists of three dioceses: Jerusalem, Cyprus and the Gulf, and Iran. Since 2014 Jerusalem’s bishop has been named Archbishop in Jerusalem, acknowledging his role representing the Anglican Communion in the Holy Land. Anglicans have not been immune to the ongoing crises in the Middle East. The 1948 war was devastating, and Anglicans joined other Palestinians as refugees throughout the region. The Christian population west of the Jordan has dwindled from more than 25% a century ago to less than 2% today.
