Current Pedestrian Improvements 

Construction has begun on the new Maple Street asphalt sidewalk near the Maplewood Elementary School. GMI Asphalt is the contractor on the project. The sidewalk improvements involve replacing the existing asphalt sidewalk on Mpale Street from West High Street to the entrance of Maplewood Elementarry School and construct a new segmnet of sidewalk from the entrance o Maplewood Elementary School to Barlet Avenue.



Modification to the island at Cemetery Rd at W. High Street has begun for the installation of curbing and new concrete pad.

Somersworth Police Comfort Dog Program

The City of Somersworth has accepted a generous donation from the Police Association to support the Police Department’s Comfort Dog Program. Through the generosity of local businesses, community members, and supporters, the Association secured donations for a Labrador Retriever, training classes, equipment and supplies, dog food, annual wellness exams, rabies vaccinations, and discounted emergency veterinary care.

These donations will help reduce costs to the City while providing an additional resource to support the Police Department and the Somersworth community. We thank the Somersworth Police Association and all of the donors who helped make this program possible.

National Night Out Success

Congratulations to the Somersworth Police Department who hosted a successful National Night Out on August 4 at Somersworth High School, welcoming residents for an evening of community connection, family activities, and public safety engagement. The event provided an opportunity for neighbors to meet local police officers, learn about public safety resources, and strengthen relationships that help make Somersworth a safer community. Thank you to everyone who attended, as well as the many City departments, community organizations, volunteers, and sponsors who helped make the event a success. 

Berwick Emergency Water Interconnect

At Monday's City Council meeting, representatives from the Town of Berwick presented a proposal to establish an emergency water connection with the City of Somersworth. The connection, proposed at the Rochester Street Bridge, would allow Berwick to access water from Somersworth in the event of an emergency. Similar to the same interconnect agreement with the City of Dover.

Follow the Flow: A Somersworth Water Walk

Join the Somersworth Recreation and Water Departments on Tuesday, August 18, form 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Riverwalk on Buffumsville Road for a free outdoor walk and learning experience. Participants will learn about the Salmon Falls River, Somersworth's public water system, and ways to help keep our watershed healthy and clean. The walk is rain or shine, except during active thunderstorms. Comfortable walking shoes, weather appropriate clothing, and a water bottle are recommended.

Primary Election Reminder: Ward 5 Voting Location



The Ward 5 polling location for the September 8^th State Primary Election will be the Charpentier Apartments Community Room, 28 Franklin Street. The new location was selected to provide a better voting experience for residents by offering improved parking availability, enhanced pedestrian safety, better lighting, and increased accessibility for voters with mobility impairments.

Sample Ballots Available for September 8th Primary

Sample ballots for the upcoming State Primary Election are now availbale. The ballots are posted in the City Clerk's Office and available online. To view the sample ballots please click on the link

Food Composting Drop Off Program



Did you know food composting is available for Somersworth residents at the Public Works facility? The City of Somersworth has partnered with Mr. Fox Composting to provide residents with a no-cost, composting option to divert waste and tonnage from the solid waste stream that gets landfilled. The program allows residents to bring their eligible food scrapes to a special Recycling Toter located near the cardboard recycling containers; Mr. Fox Composting will be removing the food scrapes on a weekly basis. 

Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Process Underway

The City has initiated the Fiscal Year 2028–2033 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) process. Departments have been provided with the annual schedule and instructions for submitting capital project requests, with staff meetings, departmental reviews, and Planning Board consideration scheduled over the coming months. The CIP serves as the City's long-range planning tool for identifying and prioritizing major capital investments to support infrastructure, facilities, equipment, and community needs.

Planning Board Vacancy

The City of Somersworth is looking for residents interested in serving on the Planning Board.

The Planning Board helps guide the City's growth by reviewing commercial development projects, subdivisions, site plans, and proposed updates to the City's Master Plan and Zoning Ordinance. Members may also participate in site walks and workshops.

Job Opening- Summer Seasonal Public Works Postion

The primary responsibilities are to maintain parks, trails, Forest Glade cemetery, landscaping islands and clean downtown street landscapes. Under the direction of the General Foreman, this seasonal position performs a variety of duties in the maintenance of City streets/Downtown streets and landscaping, litter control, and may operate a variety of vehicles, specialized equipment and hand and power tools. Position is generally in effect during the months of May through October each year.

Job Opening ~ Part-time Dispatcher

Operates communication equipment to receive incoming business and emergency calls and dispatches personnel and equipment to scene or relays calls to field units or personnel. HS diploma/GED and some knowledge of telecommunications, office procedures and computers required. Ability to maintain composure and control under adverse conditions and to cope with calls and contacts firmly, courteously, confidentially, tactfully and with respect for the rights of citizens required. Ability to type with speed and accuracy required. Some knowledge of the geography of the City and surrounding area is required. Possession of or ability to obtain NH SPOTS Certification is required. Basic EMT certification preferred.
