Instant issue contactless cards now issued in-bank
Hyperion has finalized its instant issue debit card upgrade, so we can now issue contactless cards for both consumer and commercial customers, printing the cards at our banking offices in Atlanta and Philadelphia.
So, now, instead of waiting for new cards to arrive by mail, customers can leave the bank with a new card in hand, whether they have just opened a new account or are getting a replacement card. These are permanent cards, just as the ones printed offsite would be and, again, all are contactless.
Too, with the chip technology and contactless features, these cards ensure security from the get-go. This new instant issue availability also means customers experiencing a lost or stolen card can get a replacement card quickly at one of our banking offices.
Your existing card will still function as normal through the expiration date; we will replace the expiring card with an updated contactless card when the time comes. This will be auto-shipped to the card holder.
And, as a reminder, you also can access your Hyperion consumer cards through our mobile banking app, using the “Cards” option at the bottom of the app. That tab enables customers to activate a card (again, for consumer account cards; pls call the bank for an assist with business account cards) change a pin, view a digital card, report the card lost or stolen, see more detail on charges (names and address), set spending limits, turn the card off and on, set up push notification, and allow or restrict international usage.
Questions? Ask your favorite Hyperion banker or call us: 215-789-4200 or 404-381-2110.

Hyperion annual meeting: Significant growth
At its annual meeting May 16, shareholders of Hyperion Bancshares, Inc., Hyperion Bank’s holding company, heard from CEO and Chairman Charlie Crawford, who notes the bank continues its growth, with significant progress markers and a healthy outlook.
“2023 was a year of significant growth for the company with the balance sheet expanding by 27%, driven by strong loan and deposit demand,” says Crawford, a longtime community banker. The balance of the year, he says, “will have an emphasis on increased profitability with moderate growth and a never-ending focus on credit quality.”
The meeting also saw the re-election of Hyperion’s eight board members:
- Crawford
-
Lou DeCesare, Hyperion President & COO.
-
Jill K. Jinks, Chairman of Insurance House Holdings, Inc.
-
James J. McAlpin, Jr., Partner, Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, LLP
- Robert N.C. Nix, III, Founder and President, Pleasant News, Inc.
-
Michael J. Purcell, retired Audit Partner, Deloitte & Touché.

Mobility Freedom Foundation’s Inaugural Beef & Beer fundraiser – of which Hyperion Bank was a primary sponsor – at Yards Brewing Company was an incredible success. Every dollar raised – including from a bevy of silent auction items – goes to wheelchair accessible vehicles and adaptive modifications, eliminating transportation barriers, and enhancing the quality of life for individuals with mobility challenges. Attendees experienced the adapted/accessible vehicles, a service dog training demonstration and spent time with fitness guru Paul Eugene, who specializes in adapting exercise so it is accessible to all. Hyperion’s Nicole Leitz, the Treasurer of this inclusive non-profit, ironically won First Prize in the evening’s Split the Pot fundraiser…donating her winnings back to the organization (natch). “Founding and funding this organization has been Alle’s (Allepichian Aldrich) dream, so it was wonderful to see that compassion, inclusivity and spirit made real through this event and the lives it will affect,” Nicole says. Juneteenth celebration, closure |
Look for Juneteenth activities in Atlanta & Philadelphia, and remember Hyperion Bank will be closed Wednesday, June 19, for this Federal holiday. We’ll re-open at 9a that Thursday. Enjoy #communitybanking online in the meantime.
“Juneteenth” – a portmanteau of “June” & “nineteenth” – is considered the oldest commemoration of the end of slavery in the U.S. On June 19, 1865, the Union Army finally brought news of emancipation to Texas, the furthest confederate state. A national expression of African American culture and freedom, it is celebrated both informally and officially, from family gatherings to parades and is also sometimes called “Freedom Day.”

Bankers on the run in the community |
Last month Hyperion’s Charlie Crawford – along with Hyperion board member Gretchen Santamour – ran the Broad Street Run (10 miles!). Gretchen & Charlie tied at 1:33:30.
Gretchen is a Partner in Philadelphia law firm Stradley Ronon. In the community, she represents pro bono clients in Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases on behalf of Consumer Bankruptcy Assistance Project and previously served on the executive committee and board of that organization. She also served as the President of the board of the Education Law Center, a not-for-profit law center that advocates for the rights of public school students.

Yowie: Checking in at/with a client
Wowie at YOWIE! Hyperion’s Charlie Crawford recently stayed at Yowie, the South Street “invisible service” boutique hotel – a stone’s throw from Independence Square – that is a Hyperion customer.
Pictured are some of the nice things Team Yowie did for Charlie before and after the Broad Street Run, which was the purpose of his stay.

June: Recognizing Pride month
June is LGBTQ Pride Month, established after the Stonewall riots of June 1969, which proved to be a watershed moment for the gay community. Activities during the month largely center around recognizing & celebrating LGBTQ equal rights. Many Pride parades traditionally take place in June – as did Philadelphia’s – though some municipalities – like Atlanta – have moved Pride festivals to the Fall when weather is gentler & more predictable.
Hyperion’s Charlie Crawford joined his son Mitchell for the Atlanta Pride Run 5K in Piedmont Park. The fundraising run has been an annual event since 1991.
