In an industry often associated with sales, longtime Atlanta Realtor Bill Golden sees his role differently.
"I don't consider myself to be in sales, but in the relationship business," he says. "My calling is to help people navigate what can be the most stressful and emotional transactions of their lives."
That service-first approach has earned the trust of a broad range of Atlantans for Bill Golden Homes, from first-time homebuyers, the move-up market, investors, downsizers and others. Nearly all his business – focusing on intown Atlanta neighborhoods – comes via referrals, with many clients returning multiple times over the years. He now finds himself helping multiple generations of the same family buy and sell homes.
“A current client – for the second time – is the daughter of a client I worked with years ago…before this accomplished young attorney was born…in fact, before her parents met,” laughs Bill, who, when not “real-estating” is an active board member of nonprofit, Pets Are Loving Support (PALS).
Rather than relying on assistants or transaction coordinators, Bill stays personally involved in every detail of every transaction. "I prefer to have my hands directly on the pulse of what's happening," he says.
Bill prides himself on honest counsel, even when it means walking away from a potential sale. "Clients are appreciative of customer-first advice, even when it's not what they want to hear,” he says. “I've talked many clients out of making not-quite-right decisions. I don't consider any transaction to be the last one. Let’s keep going until we get it just right."
Likewise, as a commission-based professional, he appreciates having a banking partner that understands the realities of his business.
"What I love most about Hyperion is that, if I have a question or an issue of some sort, I just pick up the phone and talk to someone who knows me and can help me," he says. "Shout out to Joel Higdon, Amy Ellis and Lexus Whyte, who are always available to patiently and professionally answer my questions."
Bill also notes that Hyperion's digital banking capabilities make it easy to deposit checks without unnecessary delays, while user-friendly online banking and QuickBooks integration helps keep finances organized.
"Having been a controller in a former career, keeping tidy books is important to me," he says. "Hyperion makes that easy. And it is tech-forward, which I appreciate."
After four decades serving Atlanta homebuyers and sellers, Bill says lasting success comes from many of the same qualities he values in a bank.
“Maybe my affinity for Hyperion is rooted in the fact that referral-based residential real estate is not unlike high-touch community banking,” Bill says. “We both focus on relationships, trust and local expertise. In a world of transactions, relationships and genuinely loving the work you do still matter.”
