APRIL 2019
" Instants in motion"

Dear friends,

Welcome to this issue of my  "PHOTOBLOG"  Newsletter, a monthly publication which is being sent to clients and friends, to keep them updated on my current photographic interests, new works and future developments.

My goal is to format the Newsletter around a short series of images, which I will try to describe briefly, so that important or interesting details will be easily available to the viewer.

Most of the imagery displayed here will also be on view at  " IMAGES" Photographic Art Gallery, in beautiful Downtown Lakewood, and I would be happy to extend to all an invitation to stop by sometime for a visit ( Friday/ Saturday 12am to 4 pm, or by appointment at any other convenient time).

As always, I will appreciate your comments and suggestions pertaining to my work, and , should you enjoy these images, please feel free to share the "PHOTOBLOG" with friends  and others as well; anyone interested in my work could be easily added to my distribution list by contacting me at  mellino1974@sbcglobal.net.

The essence of photography is ultimately the capacity to "freeze" a given moment in time, as a true record of a place, a person or an event as seen by the recorder, who then might add a personal "interpretation" of such a moment by means of various technological interactions with the image itself. "Taking" a picture with its natural colors, and subsequently converting the same into a B&W image is the obvious proof of one's creative vision, usually supported by the desire to achieve a "message" often differing from the initial situation. Most images tend to be static, as we usually try to avoid motion of the subject, considering it a marker of poor quality.
However the purposeful  recording of " Instants in motion" offers new horizons and often stimulating challenges, as these images hopefully will suggest to my viewers...as always, let me know how you react to my work. Your interest and support is always sincerely appreciated, and certainly a positive stimulus towards new goals and achievements.
Italian cowboys competing in a local Rodeo were really fun to watch, as were the rather aggressive roman gladiators!
Above, a group of hungry pelicans are trying to "share" fish scraps thrown back in the water by the fishermen...
It was a rather "interesting" moment on the water, when an old "Flying fortress" flew over us on its landing pattern at Burke Airport!
An RTA train coming out of the Terminal Tower on its way to the Airport.

Street vendors and their bubbles...and children always fascinated by the spectacle!

"Instants in motion"

A marching band during a celebration at an Italian town, with young ladies very seriously performing in front of the crowd!

Above, Maurice the "Sax Man" in one of his many appearances Downtown...still missed by us all!

These school children were having a glorious day outdoors, playing with their colorful swirl parachute, whereas an other young lady is demonstrating her newly acquired  skills!

Here is the real deal...that pizza in his hands is about to fly!

A morning beach walk, suddenly surrounded by hundreds of seagulls...what fun!

A young ballet dancer finishing her performance during her debut...all that work really paid off!

"Autumn by the River" is one of many of my works still on display at the M. Freedson Gallery in the Winton Place, as part of an exhibit closing at the end of March; a closing reception is planned on Saturday, March 30th, from 5 to 7pm...stop by to visit and for a friendly chat!

The couple above, engaged in a lovely walk on the beach...was doing so in the midst of near hurricane force winds...no wonder why the seas look so "angry"!

As April arrives, a new series of Italian landscapes will be on display at "IMAGES" Art Gallery; if you have enjoyed my previous such works, I would wish for you to come back and join us in this always pleasant conversation...stay tune for more announcements and activities in this regard!

Best wishes to all for a pleasant Easter Holiday Season, and ..Happy Spring to all,
