18U GIRLS STATE CUP TROPHY NAMED IN HONOR OF CHARLIE DYSON

Illinois Youth Soccer announced Saturday during the State Cup Finals that the 18U Girls State Cup trophy will be named the Charlie Dyson Cup in honor of the longtime girls soccer champion. Dyson has been involved in girls soccer in Illinois for over 40 years. He began coaching his daughter in Hoffman Estates and eventually became President of the Hoffman Estate Soccer Club. He coached girls for 25 years and was the first recipient of the Illinois Youth Soccer Girls Competitive Coach Of The Year award in 1991.

Since his coaching days, he has served in a variety of capacities in the Illinois soccer world including Registrar of the Illinois Women’s Soccer League, Executive Director of the Illinois Soccer Referee Committee and as a dedicated board member of the IWSL and IYSA. For all of his work, he was appropriately selected as a member of the Illinois State Soccer Association Hall Of Fame.

Prior to his time in soccer, Charlie served his country with dedication, earning the title of Sargent in the United States Army. Charlie and his wife, Flo Dyson for whom the 16U Girls State Cup trophy is named after, were both on site Saturday for the State Cup finals.

In addition to the 18U Girls State Cup dedication, Illinois Youth Soccer has named trophies after the following individuals for their commitment to youth soccer in Illinois.

  • 14U Girls: Jeff Bradley Cup
  • 16U Girls: Flo Dyson Cup
  • 19U Girls: Julius Roth Cup
  • 19U Boys: Klaus Ruege Cup
