LEGISLATIVE REVIEW
Your Chamber is reviewing the following bills that may have a big impact on our businesses and our community. We look to our members to provide us with comments on how proposed legislation will impact you and your ability to conduct business. We look forward to your comments on the following bills:

This bill seeks to completely ban the sale and distribution of carryout bags made of plastic by retail & wholesale establishments on Guam. If passed this bill will be implemented on January 1, 2021. This bill has the support of this current legislature.

This bill seeks to prohibit any further use of septic tanks on certain lots located in the groundwater protection zone regardless of whether said lots are part of parental subdivisions.

If these bills will impact your industry please let us know how they will impact your business or the community and if there are suggestions to to address the intent of the bills. We look forward to hearing from you.

University of Guam alumni, their family and friends, and the Guam community are invited to the Virtual All-Class UOG Alumni Reunion from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, where this year’s UOG Distinguished Alumni Award winners will be revealed.

“UOG alumni can be found in every industry in this region and abroad — from private business to public office — and this is always an exciting event, where the island gets to come together to celebrate the accomplishments and valuable contributions of Guam’s and Micronesia’s own,” said Norman Analista, director of development, alumni affairs, and foundation relations for the university.  The names of six winners will be announced during the event, and viewers are encouraged to join in the excitement of the virtual celebration and cheer the winners on in the chat. The event is free of charge, and all are welcome to attend.

Those interested in attending must register in advance at https://url.uog.edu/alumni-reunion. They will then receive a confirmation email containing information on how to join the meeting.

Help students go the “Last Mile”
Leading up to the Virtual All-Class UOG Alumni Reunion, the Office of Alumni Affairs will be fundraising for the Last Mile Scholarship, a competitive scholarship awarded to students who are within 30 credits of completing their first bachelor’s degree and who are in financial need. The scholarship will fund up to $1,200 per semester for each student recipient. The program awarded its first 10 students at the start of this academic year.

Community members wishing to donate to this scholarship can do so at https://give.uog.edu/donate/last-mile-scholarship-fund/. Contributors will be announced during the Virtual All-Class UOG Alumni Reunion.
