Born and raised in Mexico City, Thania Garibay grew up in a family that valued learning. Her dad would often say, “The one thing I want to make sure of is that you have a good education.” Although neither of her parents earned a college degree, both Thania and her brother would go on to earn advanced degrees.
After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Universidad de las Américas, Thania was recruited by Dallas ISD to teach bilingual students. She eagerly accepted, excited by the opportunity to provide an excellent and equitable educational experience to her students. Always a learner and wanting to have a greater impact, Thania returned to school once again, earning her Masters Degree from Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Educational Leadership.
Thania is looking forward to serving the students Oran M. Roberts. She is passionate about approaching schooling from a holistic perspective where every child is seen both as a person and as a learner. She believes that students need both academic and extra-curricular opportunities to develop as a whole person.
Thania brings four years of experience as a sitting Principal. She is proud of her work at Casa View Elementary where she and her team earned an “A” rating with 6 distinctions.
Thania enjoys reading, watching movies and sports, and attending live music events. She spends her free time with her family. A favorite activity is walking on trails around the area. Other than that, seeing the newest picture of her nephew, José Pablo, always makes her day!
