Four-Legged Lager Raises Over $25,000

Cheers to another incredible year of competition & compassion!

Thanks to our amazing community, Abandoned Pet Rescue’s 2025 Beer Label Contest with Gulf Stream Brewing Company raised more than $25,000 to support homeless cats and dogs in our care.

We’re thrilled to announce this year’s winners:

  • Ponytail, a fabulous APR Alumni cat whose charm won hearts (and votes!)
  • K-2, a dashing dog whose family made a generous gift that helped secure his top spot!

Thank you to everyone who participated, whether you submitted a pet, voted, donated, or cheered from the sidelines. We exceeded our goal thanks to your support and a little friendly competition. All is fair in love… and beer!

Happy tails for Howie!

He didn’t win the beer label contest, but nominee Howie scored something even better...a forever home after being spotted in the contest! Thank you to Kyla and Luke for giving Howie his forever home!

“When I saw Howie on Instagram, I was instantly drawn to him, especially when I saw he was pretty much a dog in a cat’s body. I loved that he was friendly with dogs and cats, which I have both. He immediately seemed comfortable in his new home, as if he’s lived here his whole life! My other cat adores him, and they play constantly! I am truly thankful for Abandoned Pet Rescue entrusting me to give Howie the best life ever!”

- Kyla

Paris's Healing Journey

This 20-pound sweetheart is looking for a special foster or forever home.

Paris is a 6-year-old French Bulldog with a spinal injury likely caused by a disc herniation (IVDD), a sadly common condition in her breed. While she currently has no use of her back legs or control of her bladder, she gets around well using her front legs and a wheelchair. She's as happy and affectionate as ever.

We’re hopeful that with continued therapy, Paris may regain some mobility, though it’s not guaranteed. She would thrive in a home that can dedicate time to her care and rehabilitation.

A huge thank you to the Brady Hunter Foundation for generously sponsoring her physical therapy and acupuncture sessions with Healing Paws Therapy, and to APR volunteer Elizabeth Eddy for fostering Paris with so much love.

Her foster family will be traveling in July, so Paris will need a new place to go soon. If you’re interested in helping this resilient girl on her healing journey, please fill out a foster or adoption application at AbandonedPetRescue.org or email info@abandonedpetrescue.org

Hollywood – 3 years old

Waiting for a home: 11 months (337 days)

Hollywood is Ready for His Close-Up!

With dazzling blue eyes, a sleek silver coat, and a bark that sounds like a seal, Hollywood turns heads wherever he goes. This 3-year-old, 70-pound Weimaraner/Lab mix is house-trained, walks great on a leash, and loves cuddles. He’s good with kids and other dogs (just give him a slow intro).

Returned when his owner had to move, this superstar is hoping his biggest fan is out there. Could it be you?

Apply to adopt at abandonedpetrescue.org

Hollywood had a great day out recently with one of our volunteers Kaylee!

"Hollywood is great out of the shelter. He loves all people and takes kindly to strangers walking up to greet him. He’s a friendly, sweet boy with a huge personality and is a total mush. He loves playing with toys, is a natural retriever, and will happily fetch a toy for you. He knows sit and paw, which he’ll gladly do for a treat. I love Hollywood for many reasons, especially his big personality and his ability to trust people even after being let down. He needs a home!"

– Kaylee

Volunteer Spotlight

Barbara Parrigin

Barbara first connected with APR in 2022 when she adopted Dove, a longtime shelter resident with FIV. After Dove passed in early 2025, Barbara returned, not only to adopt again but to give back.

She began volunteering as a cat companion, spending time socializing shy and overlooked cats. One of those cats was Sparrow, Dove’s own kitten, who had been at the shelter for more than 7 years. In a full-circle moment, Barbara adopted Sparrow, giving him the loving home he waited so long for.

Barbara now also volunteers at the front desk, assisting staff and greeting visitors. Her kindness and compassion make a difference every day for the animals and the people who care for them.

"I’ve adopted four cats from APR over the years and was always impressed by the professionalism, efficiency, and kindness of the team. I’ve always loved animals, and volunteering here lets me give back to these adorable creatures. A bonus is getting to know so many amazing staff and volunteers. I’ve learned so much from them and truly appreciate it."
