MENSAJE DEL DIRECTOR

Bajo los escarpados ojos de las montañas de Santa Monica y la elegante extensión del Océano Pacífico, los interminables campos de limoneros, habas y tomates estaban custodiados por majestuosos eucaliptos. Este fue el mundo que exploré durante mi niñez en el condado de Ventura, lo que me llevó a una profunda comprensión y amor por esta tierra multicultural. Nací en Oxnard y conocí a las personas trabajadoras y creativas que construyeron esta región. Esta apreciación del trabajo arduo y el espacio abierto la llevó a una carrera internacional de 50 años como artista escénico especializado en las artes místicas del mimo y el clown clásico. Jimmie, El payaso histórico de Oxnard es un homenaje a mi tierra natal y a los espíritus de mi madre y mi padre que amaban al condado de Ventura tanto como yo.

DIRECTOR’S NOTE

Under the rugged eyes of the Santa Monica Mountains and the elegant expanse of the Pacific Ocean, the endless lemon orchards, lima bean and tomato fields were guarded by majestic Eucalyptus. This was the world I explored during my childhood in Ventura County, leading to a profound understanding and love of this multi-cultural land. I was born in Oxnard, and met the hard working and creative people who built this region. This appreciation of hard work and open space led to a 50 year international career as a performing artist specializing in the mystical arts of the mime and classic clown. Jimmie, El payaso histórico de Oxnard is an homage to my homeland, and the spirits of my mother and father who loved Ventura County as much as I do.

Estimados amigos del Teatro

¡Qué gusto nos da traerles esta obra que se ubica en Oxnard! ¡Ojalá la disfruten todos! Además es muy especial porque la creó un hijo de Oxnard, James Donlon. Nuestro teatro se considera muy afortunado porque hace unos años que James y su esposa, la actriz Alina Ceñal, se unieron con nosotros. También nos consideramos afortunados poder seguir en este local. Por muchos años éramos “homeless”. Pero ahora tenemos este lugar gracias a la ciudad de Oxnard. Nos acomoda perfectamente. Así que con gusto seguimos adelante. Este año tenemos planeado un taller de teatro para niños y una obra navideña, Christmas contigo, que nos lleva a casa de una familia cubana en Hialeah. Ya estamos planeando la temporada del 2023. Ya contratamos una Malas palabras, para niños (y para los que aún tenemos al niño adentro), que se presentará en febrero. Esperamos crear una obra basada en las historias que nos traerán participantes de un proyecto que se llama Stories to the Stage. Y a ver qué más. Les agradecemos su apoyo: su asistencia a las obras, su participación en los talleres y sus donativos. ¡Nos seguimos viendo en el teatro!

Dear Friends of Teatro

We are happy to bring you this play located in Oxnard! We hope everyone enjoys it. Moreover it is very special because it was created by a son of Oxnard, James Donlon! Our teatro is fortunate because a few years ago James and his wife, the actress Alina Ceñal, joined us. We are also fortunate because we continue working in this building. We were homeless for many years. But now we have this location thanks to the City of Oxnard. It fits us to a “t”. So we joyfully keep going! This year we are planning a Children’s Acting Workshop and the play Christmas Contigo, which will take us to the home of a Cuban family in Hialeah. We are planning the 2023 season. So far we are scheduled the play Malas palabras / Bad Words for children (and the child in us adults) in February. We will also present a play based on stories from participants in a project called Stories to the Stage. And we will see what else. We are grateful for your support: your attendance at the plays; your participation in workshops; and your donations. Let’s keep seeing each other at the teatro!
