Walk/Run/Yoga Fundraiser: September 25 - October 2!
Hello and Happy Summer, Everyone!

We're happy to announcew that registration is now open for our Walk/Run/Yoga fundraiser! We'll get the fun and fundraising rolling on Saturday, September 25 with an in-person limited registration kickoff in Pleasanton from 9 am to 11 am.

Register ASAP if you'd like to join our in-person event which will include a boxed breakfast, our very popular Bollywood dance warm up with Shameem, our very special dove release provided by volunteer Jim Dempsey, giveaways, and more. Go to our ItsYourRace.com registration page for full details.

The event will be live streamed on our YouTube channel so if you choose to participate virtually (see more on this below), you can still be a part of our kick-off!
Once our kickoff concludes, those who have chosen our virtual Yoga with Sherri Plaza option will join her via Zoom from 11 am-12 pm (the yoga class link will be emailed once registration is completed).

All 5k walkers and 5k/10k runners will participate virtually this year with an expanded time frame to complete their course: Saturday, September 25 to Saturday, October 2. Choose your own course or go with our fun suggestion and walk at the Fremont Festival of the Arts (more on this below)!

For complete details, including registration categories and benefits, visit our ItsYourRace.com page.
Your support will ensure that we meet our $85,000 fundraising goal so that patients in need get the help they deserve -- patients like Luisa whose financially burdensome insurance co-pays were covered by HERS.

Fundraisers like our Walk/Run/Yoga event allow patients like Luisa to concentrate on their healing rather than stressful and insurmountable bills, and will provide many hundreds more with post-surgical products and services that aid their physical and emotional recovery.

Next year we'll return to hosting our Walk/Run/Yoga Fundraiser at Quarry Lakes in Fremont. Save the date: Saturday, September 24, 2022, and stay tuned for more updates.

With gratitude,
Tina Fernandez Steckler
Executive Director

Row for a Cause

Pleasanton's Row House hosted a fun and energizing Row for a Cause event in June. HERS team members and friends loved it so much we've already scheduled another Row for a Cause fundraiser on October 9th at 10:45 am! Register now at https://tinyurl.com/HERSROWFORACAUSE or call (925) 400-9520.

iniBurger Give Back Fundraiser

We're also grateful to iniBurger owner Leeza and her team members at the Pleasanton and Fremont iniBurger locations for hosting a 20% give back fundraisers in early July.

HERS ordered delicious burgers as a Friday treat and quite a few friends ordered take out and dined in. Like us, they loved iniBurger's delicious halal menu! Try it and learn why we're major fans.

NaMalay Yoga Fundraiser

And NaMalay Yoga Studio in San Jose organized a recent 50% give back Friday Fundraiser yoga session.

Led by owner and instructor Malay, the fundraiser was part of her birthday weekend celebration. Thank you, Malay, for your kindness and generosity!

Volunteer Spotlight
Our wonderful volunteer team is made up of amazingly generous, talented, and compassionate individuals. Our August Volunteer Spotlight is on our friends Cathy Barry and Janice Gebhardt. Read on to see why they're a part of the HERS Family.
Cathy Barry

Cathy Barry is a Fremont resident whose "adventure with HERS" began over 20 years ago.

As with many of our volunteers, breast cancer has had a direct impact on Cathy; she was just a teen when she lost her mother to the disease.

Learn what inspires Cathy to continue volunteering and how she supports HERS and our patients here, and join us in thanking Cathy for her many years of service and support.

Janice Gebhardt

A longtime Fremont resident, Janice Gebhardt has been touched in several ways by breast cancer.

Janice recently shared a very poignant experience in which HERS assisted her mother, who was a four decades-plus breast cancer survivor.

Read about Janice's experience with HERS here and why she continues to support our cause, and please join us in thanking Janice for her dedication to our patients and our mission!

HERS at Fremont Street Eats
We had a lot of fun at Fremont's Street Eats on July 16! Thanks to all who stopped by to say hello, donated in support of our Assistance Programs, and signed up to become HERS Volunteers.

Our fun Pink Prize Wheel was a big hit and our mini spa basket prize that included a free registration for our Walk/Run/Yoga fundraiser attracted a LOT of entries! Congrats to our prize winner Fran O.

Be sure to visit Street Eats every Friday between 5-8 pm through October 22. You'll enjoy delicious food, music and line dancing, cornhole and giant Jenga, and more! Location is the Fremont Main Library parking lot at 2400 Stevenson Boulevard.

We'll return to Street Eats with our HERS info table, another fabulous giveaway, and our prize wheel on August 13 and September 10. See you there!
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) begins October 1 and we're already gearing up for fundraising and outreach activities.

Partnering with community groups and businesses for BCAM and throughout the year is critical to ensuring that patients know about our programs and it's also an impactful way to raise funds in support of our under-served patients. Our communities' creative fundraising ideas never fail to amaze us!

Past October fundraisers include Giving Hope Program donations from Premier Nissan and Premier Subaru of Fremont and Premier Nissan of San Jose, A RAGE Soccer of Pleasanton event, Lisa Stambaugh's quirky BCAM Chickens, and #PinkPatchProject participation by many local law enforcement agency employees, including members of the City of Fremont Police Department.

We'll update our online calendar regularly and encourage you to check follow us on Facebook or Instagram for updates.

And if you're inspired to raise funds for HERS patients, let's talk! Call (510) 790-1911 or email your fundraising ideas. We'd look forward to connecting!
