Our Website Has a New Look!
|
|
Over Winter Break, we launched a new look of our Kings Website. We hope that we've made things a little easier to search and find. Did you know that we have a Google Translator on our site that will translate our site into 18 different languages?
Our website is financially supported by local businesses and individuals. School websites cost tens of thousands of dollars so we are grateful for those who support us. There are only a few spots left on the pages for advertisers. If you are interested in supporting the Kings website, please contact Addie Fitzgerald at Legend Webworks at addie@legendwebworks.com.

KJH Teacher in Running for NHL MVT
|
|
As we reported in December, Kings Junior High School Science teacher, Vonda Fruhwirth was named Teacher of the Month from the Columbus Blue Jackets!
Because of that recognition, she has been selected to be a part of the Most Valuable Teacher (MVT) program featured on NHL.com and only one of the 20 nominees across North America chosen for January’s Future Goals MVT!
Mrs. Fruhwirth is in competition to be named Teacher of the Year but she needs your help! Let's all get behind Mrs. Fruhwirth and VOTE EVERY DAY in January for her to be named Most Valuable Teacher AND win $10,000 in technology for KJH! The grand prize winner, announced in May, will receive an additional $20,000 for a sustainability grant for their school district and $1,000 toward a personal technology device.
You can vote once daily per email address. Hint: if you have more than one email address, you can vote with each one! VOTE at nhl.com/mvt.
From Mrs. Fruhwirth ~
Exciting news- I have been nominated for the NHL/NHLPA’s Most Valuable Teacher award! Together with the Future Goals- Hockey Scholars program, our students have been able to keep their STEM skills sharp during this unique school year.
As part of this nomination, there is the opportunity for our school to be recognized by the NHL/NHLPA for our STEM accomplishments this year.
From January 1st- January 31st, our community (including teachers, students, and parents) can visit nhl.com/mvt to vote for me to be recognized as the Most Valuable Teacher for the month of January. This would be a great honor for our students, our school, and our community.
Best,
Mrs. Vonda Fruhwirth

Peachjar is live on our website! In case you missed it last week, we will be using a new platform to distribute school-approved flyers.
Parents will receive a weekly email of the most up-to-date flyers posted on the flyer board.
Anyone wishing to post to the flyerboard will need to register at peachjar.com as a program provider and upload their pdf flyer and select schools for distribution. There will be a nominal fee for organizations that are for profit. All non-profit organizations whose event is to directly benefit children and who are not charging a fee for the event may use Peachjar free of charge. Peachjar’s cost is typically less than that of printing and distributing paper flyers.
Thank you for supporting our efforts to ensure parents are well informed about school programs, activities, and events!

KHS Seniors Prepare for Future Service
|
|
While area students were relaxing and recharging from a long semester, two Kings High School seniors were preparing themselves for the future.
TJ Hospodar and Gavin Legault attended The Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC) Recruit Training (RT) in Marseilles, IL. This is the cadet’s introduction to military routine and discipline. Cadets spend nine days learning basic Navy subjects, elementary seamanship, basic damage control (shipboard firefighting, basic engineering, and signals, among others), and quarter’s maintenance. Additionally, cadets participate in physical fitness training, drill basics, and following orders.
Recruits are issued night watch times which deprives the recruit of sleep as they protect their watch. The NSCC recruit training is very much like an abbreviated version of its U.S. Military counterparts. Recruits have no contact with the outside world during training. They are not allowed phones or computers but may receive mail.
Gavin was awarded the Squadron Leader for the entire duration of the program. The Commanding Officers choose their leader each day. He is one of the few participants to have been awarded this honor for each day of training. He was also awarded the Overall Honor Cadet which is the highest award for the program. The Platoon under his watch was the top Platoon of the Program and earned him a ribbon for his uniform.
Both TJ and Gavin earned their E2 status and will continue to attend monthly drill weekends through the rest of their senior year. Both men have already enlisted and will ship off to boot camp in mid to late June.
The Sea Cadet Program is available to students ages 10-18 years. The mission of the Sea Cadets is to build leaders of character. While there is no requirement for military service, many cadets join the armed forces.
Thank you for your service, gentlemen.

KHS Career Quest Kick-Off
|
|
Kings High School kicked off Career Quest this week. The group works with about 25 Seniors during the 2nd semester to help them find their best first place after graduation. Students meet twice a month as a group and also receive personal coaching. They're connected with local partners from United Way of Warren County and Sinclair Community College to discover the path that's correct for them; schooling, certificates, local employment, or a hybrid of both.
One of the Career Quest coaches, United Way's Joe Schroeder is also a jump rope coach for a local high school so he introduced a jump rope team building activity to see how many students they could get to jump at once. Eleven was their lucky number!

A Social Emotional Update
|
|
Our social and emotional community partners, 1N5 and MindPeace are working together to provide FREE QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Gatekeeper Suicide Prevention training to those in the best position to help save a life.
QPR is a program designed for anyone who may be in a position to prevent suicide. By learning QPR, you will come to recognize warning signs, clues, and suicidal communication so you can identify if a child/teen is in trouble and act vigorously to prevent a possible tragedy.
There are several dates into March offering virtual suicide prevention training. The next Parent-Focused QPR is January 12 from 4:00-6:00 p.m.
