Be a Part of the Process - We NEED You!

Thank you to the community members who completed the Master Facilities survey from the first Community Forum. Nearly 600 responses were recorded.

The survey asked the community to give their feedback on eleven possible building plans. The SHP staff is now gathering all of the information collected to bring the results to the next Community Forum that will be held on Saturday, October 28 at 10:00 a.m. at Kings High School Auditorium. The Forum will also be livestreamed on the Kings Youtube channel.

After the Forum, the community will have another opportunity to weigh in on the new options. To learn more about the Master Facilities Planning project visit here.

Kings Finance Update - Property Taxes

The Ohio House of Representatives voted to enact property value changes due to rapid growth in property values. The bill now goes to the Senate. If enacted, your property values are likely to increase less than they would have in 2024, potentially saving you money.

Many assume that the property tax you pay increases at the same rate that your home value increases, but that is not always the case.

House Bill 920, passed in 1976, limits the growth of property taxes that you pay. All of Kings' voted operating levies collect at a lower rate when property values increase to ensure that community members do not feel the full increase. However, you will see some increase in your taxes due to constitutionally guaranteed inside millage that makes up 12% of our current taxes.

This image shows property tax rates from the last property value update in 2021. Residential property owners saw their voted operating levy tax rates go down by 13.8% to offset an increase in property values.

KJH PACT Day

In a grand display of Pride and Togetherness, the entire Kings Junior High School student body of 720 students spelled out "PACT" on the football field during PACT day on Thursday, October 19.

PACT - Pride. Attitude. Commitment. Together. represents KJH's school-wide initiative and the values they strive to instill in our educational community. Through this program, they have the opportunity to celebrate the outstanding achievements of their remarkable students!

The day was built around creating relationships and spending time together with activities that help remind and further enrich the PACT qualities.

This year, Kings Director of Childcare, Ron Corradini was a special speaker for the day during the first school-wide assembly where the KJH band played. The students also enjoyed a mini dodgeball tournament, a DJ, Kona ice, yard games, a photo booth, minute-to-win-it games, and a Crumbl cookie activity where they turned a teacher into a Crumbl cookie.

Education Expert Speaks at Kings

The renowned education expert, Dr. Bill Daggett, delivered a captivating presentation to Kings staff and community this week on the future of education. His insights into emerging trends, cutting-edge technologies, and innovative teaching methodologies left the audience inspired and empowered.

Dr. Daggett urged educators to embrace change, adapt to new realities, and focus on developing skills that will prepare students for success in the 21st century and beyond. His vision for the future of education is one that is dynamic, inclusive, and student-centered, and it promises to revolutionize the way we think about teaching and learning.

Kings Music Teacher World Premiere

You don't want to miss next week's Kings High School Orchestra concert! On Wednesday, October 25, the KHS Symphony and Chamber Orchestra will perform their Halloween-themed costume concert in the KHS Auditorium at 6:30 p.m.

A highlight of this year's concert will be the World Premiere of the piece, "Ghosts of Chateau LaRoche" composed by our very own KME Music Teacher, Matt Jenkins.

In the spring of 2022, Mr. Jenkins filled in for the regular pianist at the Kings Orchestra concert. After the concert, he asked if he could compose a piece for string orchestra, which was met with enthusiasm from Kings Orchestra teachers Rana Southern and Chris Weber.

Jenkins initially attempted to compose a piece based on various tunes of the Bach family but later decided to write a piece that would somehow connect to Kings. He drew inspiration from the school's mascot, the architecture of the main entrance to the high school, and nearby Loveland Castle. This research inspired him to name his piece "Ghosts of Chateau LaRoche."

To prepare for the world premiere of his composition, he sought out the expertise of Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra Conductor, Felipe Morales. The composition promises to be a unique and captivating addition to Kings Orchestra's repertoire. "Personally, I think the piece is just perfect for a Halloween-themed concert," said Jenkins.

KHS DMA Receives Grant

Congratulations to the Kings High School Digital Media Arts Program for receiving a $2,500 classroom grant from Batelle and the Ohio STEM Learning Network (OSLN).

The grant is only one of 233 issued this fall to create sustainable, STEM learning projects. In total,161 public schools join KHS in winning the award. The program reached students in one of every seven school districts (130) across 60 Ohio counties.

KHS DMA teacher Kelly Shields submitted the grant proposal and will use the money to purchase a laser cutter for her classroom. Thank you to Mrs. Shields for looking for ways to create better opportunities for your students.

KJH River Trip

Students from the Kings High School 7 Blue Team spent a day at the Little Miami River learning about an important natural resource, our watershed.

Hands-on (and feet-in) activities included: Water chemistry- Testing water samples for pH, phosphates, turbidity (clearness), etc.; Macroinvertebrates - A collection, ID, and study of the tiny creatures living under rocks; and Fish Adaptations - Seine netting to catch fish for ID and discussion of anatomy adaptations.

It was a beautiful day with lots of learning for our 7th graders!
