Kings Facility Master Planning Update
The Kings Local School District Board of Education voted Tuesday night to accept the Master Facility Plan recommended by the Community Advisory Team. This plan calls for constructing a new Kings High School to address current capacity issues. The plan would also rightsize our current elementary buildings. JF Burns, Kings Mills, and South Lebanon Elementary Schools would transition into K-3 schools. Columbia Intermediate School will receive an addition in order to house 4th and 5th-grade students. Kings Junior High School would transition into a 6-8 middle school located at the current high school. Additionally, the plan calls for improvements to existing buildings.
The Board took the first step toward placing a $142 million bond issue on the March 2024 ballot to fund the facility improvement projects. The district is working closely with financial advisors and the County Auditor to determine the necessary millage amount for the ballot measure and financing to minimize the impact on taxpayers.
The Board will vote in December on whether to officially place the bond issue on the March 19, 2024 ballot.

KHS Bow Wow Bakery Open for Business
Bow Wow Bakery(formally known as K-Night Dog Bones) is a class-run business at Kings High School that offers students with disabilities the ability to work both independently and together as a team to create healthy dog bones to sell to district staff, family, and friends.
The class has been working together trialing new recipes, exploring and researching
packaging, stamps, stickers, and treat cutters.
The students voted on a new name, type of dog to use on the logo, color scheme, and logo design which was created by KHS senior, Caroline Cooper, who is a Digital Media Arts student.
The Bow Wow Bakery crew works with KHS Job Coach, Mary Seniours, to make and prepare the dough, roll and cut out the dog treats, and label and freeze the dough each and every week. The treats are handcrafted with love for your furry friends, and made from all-purpose flour, sweet potato puree, and cinnamon.
KHS MD Intervention Specialist, Shannon Mitchell works closely with Seniours and Student Manager, Tommy Romano to keep the business up and running. She said, "We are also blessed with dedicated paras and support staff to work alongside our students to make the entire process happen each and every day!" The students are also supported by Occupational Therapist, Melissa Miller and Speech Language Pathologist, Katie Gould.
The cost of the dog bones is $3 per bag (3 oz/16 dog treats) or 2 for $5. The treats are sold in the District, as well as, Coffee Caravan in Lebanon. They will also be available for purchase in the Kings High School main office.
