Kings Emergency Notification System Test

It’s getting to be that time of the year when the potential for bad weather is upon us. In case of inclement weather and possible school closings or delays, we will use our School Messenger All-Call System to notify parents and staff.

The District will conduct a test call on Wednesday, December 13. Please be sure that your FinalForms account is up to date. That information goes directly into our School Messenger system. If you would like to receive text messages, text yes to 67587 to opt-in.

Additionally, keeping your student's FinalForms account current with emergency contact numbers is important, especially going into cold and flu season, to allow for parents to be contacted in case of a student's illness at school. Please also screen your student before they come to school for any symptoms of illness.

Social Media is also a great way to get information. For the most up-to-date school closing information, check our websiteFacebook PageTwitter, and Instagram

KME Thanksgiving Parade

The annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade has nothing on Kings Mills Elementary! Last week, the second and third-grade classes hosted their own parade, the First Annual KME Thanksgiving Parade, featuring balloons and floats.

The students read "Balloons Over Broadway" where they learned about the history of the popular parade, as well as the making of the balloons and floats. The second graders designed floats and the third graders designed balloons.

They paraded around KME showing off their creativity. KME second-grade teacher, Amy Edwards said, "We hope to make it an annual tradition!"

Candy Drive for the Troops

This year, both South Lebanon Elementary and J.F. Burns Elementary, in their 12th year, participated in a candy drive for the Troops. Our community was encouraged to donate their leftover Halloween candy to use in care packages for our Service men and women.

This year a total of 2,014 pounds of candy was collected! They had help from Keller Williams Seven Hills Realty and Pinnacle Group, Mac's Pizza Pub Landen, KHS Honor Society, Evo Fit Club, the City of South Lebanon, Maryann Harrison, and Showbiz Dance Academy.

Keith Maupin from the Yellow Ribbon Support Center sent 45 care packages to the troops, including candy, letters, pictures, and personal care items. Organizer, Hope Cantrall said she is incredibly proud of this effort. It takes a lot of volunteers to make this happen. She made a special mention of this year's student volunteers. "They were very impressive and they finished sorting and boxing in record time."

Way to go, Knight Nation

KHS Career Quest Program

Career Quest, a program for Kings High School seniors that focuses on discovering what's next after graduation, kicked off on November 15.

Career Quest is founded on the concept that every Kings graduate deserves to have a clear pathway post-graduation and be exposed to the right connections and resources to reach whatever success means to them. During the kick-off, 25 students had an opportunity to meet the key staff involved and learn about the company tours, career and post-secondary connections, 1:1 career planning, and workshops that will be offered from December to April this school year.

At the end of the pizza lunch, new Career Quest students compete in a jump rope team-building competition across several schools. This year, Kings Career Quest seniors took the lead ahead of Little Miami, Mason, and Franklin with 11 students completing a jump at once!

KJH Student Places in Writing Contest

Congratulations to Kings Junior High School 8th grader, Caden Horton, who placed third in this year's VFW Patriot's Pen Contest.

Each year, nearly 68,800 students in sixth through eighth grades enter the VFW’s Patriot’s Pen youth essay contest. The essay contest encourages young minds to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting a 300 to 400-word essay, expressing their views based on this year's theme, "How are you inspired by America?' chosen by the VFW Commander-in-Chief.

The first-place winner advances to the regional level. While Caden didn't advance, his history teacher, Emily Baffi is very proud of him!
