Kings Bond Update

The Kings Local School District has placed a Bond Issue on the March 19 primary ballot. If approved by the community, the bond Issue would fund a new Kings High School and an addition at Columbia Intermediate, addressing the overcapacity challenges throughout the District.

Kings Community members have one more opportunity to learn more about the upcoming bond issue, facilities plan, new high school solution, and District financial information on Tuesday, February 27 at 7:00 p.m. at a Community Information Night.

Early voting has begun. Visit the Warren County Board of Elections website for additional information on early voting hours and requesting an absentee ballot.

As you see below, the bond language will say 5.971 mills, but due to creative financing and debt payoff, the actual bond impact to the property owner will be 3.5 mills, which is $123 annually per $100,000 home.

How much will the bond cost you if it passes? Click here to find out using our bond calculator.

If you have any questions regarding school finance, contact Kings Treasurer Mike Morrow at mmorrow@kingslocal.net.

Please visit the Kings Facilities Page on the Kings website to learn more.

KHS Students Advance in Rotary Speech Test

Two Kings High School students participated in the Mason-Deerfield Rotary’s Four-Way Test Speech Contest this week. Congratulations to Sophomore, Taylor Kleis and Senior, Cristian Corro Zambrano who were named this year's winners!

The Four-Way Test Speech Contest, sponsored by Rotary International, is held annually for interested high school students at local and district levels. Two students from both KHS and Mason High School compete each year.

The speech is presented from memory without the aid of a podium, notes, displays, or props, and lasts between four and six minutes. Contestants apply the Four-Way Test which asks the following four things: Is it the TRUTH?, Is it Fair to all concerned, Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS, and Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Rotary International is a worldwide organization dedicated to serving others. Great emphasis is placed on using one’s vocation to serve others and establish honesty and integrity as marks of one’s profession and involvement in the world of work. The Four-Way Test has a long tradition or use worldwide and is a part of Rotary’s motto: Service Above Self.

Taylor and Cristian will now compete at the District level on Friday, April 19 at the Deer Creek Lodge and Conference Center in Mt. Sterling, Ohio.

We are proud of you Taylor and Cristian!

Kings Students Serve in Mexico

Fifty-five Kings High School students and eight chaperones traveled to Monterrey, Mexico over the Presidents Day holiday to volunteer with Back2Back Ministries.

The group worked in two different children's homes. They worked on multiple projects such as removing a roof, clearing brush, creating vegetable gardens, painting ceilings, building shelves, and many more.

Organizers Andy Endress and Alex Garvin told us that the students were compassionate and hardworking. They said that the Back2Back staff looks forward to the Kings crew coming each year. "They know they can give us a difficult task and we won't stop until it's completed," Endress said.

He said that on this trip, students have great experiences and lots of change in perspective. "I truly think this trip brings out the best in our kids," he said.
