Public Schools PROUD
Join us as we celebrate Public Schools Week. This week celebrates our schools as it brings together school leaders, educators, school board members, parents & community leaders to recognize the importance of our nation’s public schools and our students’ futures.

9 out of 10 students—over 48 million—attend a public school. Public schools welcome every child—regardless of ability, race, religion, wealth, language, country of origin, or needs.

We’re proud of our schools that help your children learn and grow. THANK YOU to our dedicated teachers and staff for keeping our students safe, learning, and growing this year. PUBLIC SCHOOL PROUD!
Ohio's Lieutenant Governor Visits KHS
Ohio's Lieutenant Governor, Jon Husted visited the Kings High School Employability classes on Wednesday, February 23, 2022.

The students presented him with the coveted Kings Hard Hat Award which is given to stakeholders who promote workforce development and student achievement. The hard hat is a symbol of work commitment and grit

During his short visit, he gave the students great advice and told inspiring stories. With such a busy schedule, we were honored to host the Lt. Governor and his team!

They are doing great things at Kings High School for students who are interested in going into the workforce. Students are being exposed to several different job opportunities, apprenticeships, and experienceships. Thanks to Employability teacher, Dustin Goldie for his leadership!

Watch the video below to hear his message.

Kings Board President Honored by OSBA
Congratulations to our own Kings Board of Education President, Stacie Belfrom who is a recipient of the 2022 Ohio School Boards AssociationTraining Award.

The OSBA Training Award is a distinct award and is part of OSBA’s new STAR Awards Program. STAR stands for service, training, aptitude, and recognition.

The OSBA Training Award is an award that is presented to a select group, as only 50 of the more than 3,400 board members in Ohio will receive the honor in 2022.

Belfrom takes his position on the Kings Board of Education seriously. He not only attends meetings, but he also takes part in professional development events and activities offered by OSBA and the National School Boards Association (NSBA).

In order to receive the Training Award, a board member must earn 200 points within a three-year period. There are 15 types of events or activities which qualify for points towards the award including attending a regional fall or spring conference, attending OSBA’s State Legislative Conference, and attending the OSBA Board Leadership Institute.

Mr. Belfrom said, "Being a board member is an honor and a privilege. It is more than just attending meetings. As a policy and decision-maker for the Kings District, I have tried to expand my knowledge by participating in professional development to help guide the district and students," he said. "I am humbled to receive this award."

Mr. Belfrom will be officially recognized at the Southwest Region Spring Conference on Tuesday, March 8.

In order for the Kings Board of Education to be present when Mr. Belfrom receives his award, the Work Session scheduled for Tuesday, March 8 has been canceled. The Board will meet on Tuesday, March 15 at 5:30 p.m. for a Combined Work Session and Regular meeting.
KHS Students Serve in Mexico
Forty-five Kings High School students spent their Presidents Day weekend serving at an orphanage in Monterrey, Mexico.

Co-Organizer and KHS teacher, Andy Endress said that he and Co-Organizer and KHS Counselor, Alex Garvin were happy to be able to go this year as the trip was canceled last year due to COVID restrictions.

While there were still strict COVID regulations in Mexico, the students were required to wear masks at all times while in the orphanage. He said, "Not one of them (students) batted an eye at wearing masks." He said that the students "were absolutely amazing, compassionate, kind, serving, hard-working, and took some risks."

Serving Back2Back Ministries on this yearly trip definitely takes the students out of their comfort zone. Back2Back said that this group from KHS is their favorite of the year because they know that "our students will do it the right way, finish what they start, and show great love to the vulnerable children."

Endress said, "A lot of cultural and language barriers were broken down, as well as a lot of growth from our students."
