Update from Kings Treasurer, Mike Morrow

The Kings Community should have or will be receiving their property tax bills from Warren County.

If you look at your tax bill for this year compared to last, you will see a couple of differences.

  1. School taxes increased. Our community approved a 6.4 mill operating levy in November of 2022 that will be used for day-to-day operating expenses, including payroll, benefits, student services, utilities, etc. This is the first tax bill with the increase.
  2. County taxes increased. Warren County and multiple other political subdivisions granted a “tax holiday” for taxes paid in 2022. This removed their share of the property tax levies for one year. This holiday has ended, and the levies were placed back on your bill resulting in an increase. If not for the holiday, everyone would have paid this amount last year as well.

Please reach out to Kings Treasurer, Mike Morrow, with any questions. His email address is mmorrow@kingslocal.net.

We thank the Kings Community for your financial support.

KME First Graders Celebrate the Lunar New Year

Students in Mrs. Shepherd's first-grade class at Kings Mills Elementary celebrated the Lunar New Year on Friday, February 3. This holiday is celebrated in many different countries around the world.

The class focused specifically on the customs of China for this activity. The children created lanterns to welcome the Year of the Rabbit. They made red Lucky Money envelopes and had a feast. They would like to wish everyone Gung Hat Fat Choy! Happy New Year!

KHS and KME Collaborate for Black History Month

Teachers and students from Kings High School and Kings Mills Elementary schools are partnering to celebrate Black Lives in Literature in a door decorating contest as a part of celebrating Black History Month.

KME teachers have competed in a door decorating contest during Black History Month in the past, but this year they have decided to do something a little different.

KME teachers have chosen a Black author's book to highlight during the month. They will decorate their classroom door to honor the book and will coordinate with teachers at KHS to do the same. Once all of the doors are decorated in both buildings, a slideshow will be put together, and a winner will be voted on.

Today, KME third-grade teacher Anissa Jones and KHS English teacher Katlyn Gilbert zoomed with their classes as they are collaborating on the same book, "Carmela Full of Wishes," illustrated by Christian Robinson.

Mrs. Jones read the book while Mrs. Gilbert showed the pages to her high school students. It was a special treat for the high school students as some of them had Mrs. Jones as a teacher in elementary school.

Now that they have all read the book, the work begins on decorating their doors! We can't wait to see the final results of all the doors. Stay tuned!

Kings Theatre Receives Donation

At last week's production of "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown," Kings Stagelighters were presented with a $1,000 donation from the Daumeyer family.

The Daumeyer's have supported Kings Stagelighters by funding a scholarship in their late daughter, Kaylyn's name since 2014.
