SLE Kings Kids Appreciate Deputy Green

Students in the Kings Kids Before School Care Program at South Lebanon Elementary recently surprised school School Resource Officer, Deputy Phil Green.

For two weeks, the students worked on creating 3-D patrol cars stuffed with snacks, thank you letters and cards, and a police officer word search. SLE Kings Kids Team Lead Miss Danielle said, "Thank you Deputy Green for keeping SLE and our community safe!"

KJH Robotics Students Get Hands On Experience

Kings Junior High School 8th grade Robotics students visited the Warren County Career Center's Robotics Lab on Friday, March 10.

The instructor, Mr. Higgins and his students showed the KJH students around the lab and allowed them to test some of the machinery and get some hands-on experience.

KJH Project Lead the Way Teacher, Sara Nicholls said, "This is a great partnership between satellite/PLTW programs and main campus programs."

JFB 4th Graders Visited by KI Chef

Kings Island's Executive Chef, James Major took some time out of the kitchen last week to pay a visit to the 4th graders at J.F. Burns Elementary.

Kings students in grades 3 and 4 are reading “The Next Best Junior Chef” by Charise Mericle Harper. The book series is about kids in a cooking competition. Chef-related stories about when he competed and won on the Food Network’s Chopped. He believes that his popcorn ice cream sealed the win for him.

Chef James, as he is affectionately known as said his favorite dish to cook is bolognese and his favorite place to eat is McDonald's! The students loved that! He’s cooked for several presidents and dignitaries and worked for the Cleveland Guardians (Indians) and the Cincinnati Reds! Chef James also stayed after his visit to autograph books.

This is what Kings Island had to say about his visit.

Fun fact: JFB 4th grade teacher, Dave DeVore has worked his summers at Kings Island for 20 years!

KJH Students Visit Kings Island

Some lucky Kings Junior High School 7th-grade students recently visited Kings Island to meet with the park's engineers.

Students learned how KI Engineers use coding for Orion, magnetic braking systems, and much more. They were given a tour of Banshee’s operating deck and control room. The students’ favorite part was the top-secret never released to the public design briefs and CAD renderings of the new area Adventure Port!

KHS Junior Wins Speech Test

Two Kings High School students participated in the Mason-Deerfield Rotary’s Four-Way Test Speech Contest on Tuesday, March 7.

Each year, two students from Kings High School and two from Mason High School participate in the Mason-Deerfield Rotary contest. This year, KHS Juniors, Cristian Corro-Zambrano, and Ava Goulle represented Kings as they presented their speeches in front of Rotary Members and Guests. Congratulations to Cristian who was the winner of this year's competition.

The Four-Way Test Speech Contest, sponsored by Rotary International, is held annually for interested high school students at local and district levels. The speech is presented from memory without the aid of a podium, notes, displays or props, and lasts between four and six minutes.

Cristian will represent the Kings and Mason-Deerfield Rotary Club on March 26 at the District Competition at Wright State University.

Rotary International is a worldwide organization dedicated to serving others. Great emphasis is placed on using one’s vocation, not only to serve others but to establish honesty and integrity as marks of one’s profession and involvement in the world of work. The Four-Way Test has a long tradition of use around the world and is a part of Rotary’s motto: Service Above Self.

Congratulations to both Cristian and Ava and thanks to KHS teacher, Pete Moore for mentoring these awesome students!

Kings Firecrackers

The Kings Firecrackers Jump Rope Team just finished their performance season jam-packed with twenty-three performances from Kings High School all the way to Annapolis, Maryland.

This weekend, the Firecrackers will perform in Chicago at the Big Ten Tournament and will travel back to Chicago next weekend to perform at halftime of the Chicago Bulls game.

Firecrackers Coach and former Kings Physical Education teacher, Lynn Kelley has been coaching the team made up of 2nd through 8th graders since 1996. The Firecracker Jump Rope Team is not just about jumping and physical fitness. Yearly, the girls take an etiquette course, and a public speaking course, participate in many community service projects and do several events to show and express their appreciation to others.

The Team will be hosting its annual Sparklers Jump Rope Clinics on March 14 and 21 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Kings Junior High School. The clinics are a great way to learn the art of jump roping and to learn more about trying out for the Team!

The clinics are open to all 2nd-5th grade Kings students.

Pictured below are the Firecrackers with their invited staff member at their appreciation show.

Each year, InnerView provides an Impact Summary report that highlights the school-wide service for the entire school year. This year so far, our students have made a financial impact of $469,773 in volunteer hours! Check out the report below for more information.

Kings Hoxworth Blood Drive

It's that time again! The Kings High School/Jorge Gonzalez Memorial Hoxworth Blood Drive is coming up on Tuesday, March 28 from 10:15 a.m to 4:15 p.m. The blood donation will take place in the Kings Junior High School JH Multi-Purpose Room.

In October 2021, we lost an incredible teacher, colleague, and friend to Covid. His name is Jorge Gonzalez. He was a KHS Spanish teacher and very passionate about life-saving blood donation. Jorge started coordinating Hoxworth Blood Drives in January 2004 and hosted his last one in September 2021. Under his coordination, the drives collected 1262 units of blood; the potential to save the lives of more than 3786 patients - that’s LEGACY! Let's continue Jorge's legacy by donating blood to save lives.
