Join Us for CommuKnighty Connection
|
|
There's still time to RSVP for next week's CommuKnighty Connection!
Earlier in February, we asked the community to provide input on what you believe are the critical skills our students need to develop and demonstrate as they pursue their dreams. The community engaged in this process with over one thousand participants providing feedback. There are general themes that have been identified and we will now start to become more targeted and specific on the exact skills our students need.
We would like to invite you to a CommuKnighty Connection on March 22, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. at the Columbia Intermediate School Cafeteria. This will be a collaborative opportunity to engage in a protocol that will drill the large themes down into specific transdisciplinary skills.
Thank you for your interest in helping us live out our KingStrong Culture of Growth Drives Dreams.

KHS Pre-Apprentice Program
|
|
Three Kings High School students are the first of many to participate in a pre-apprenticeship program sponsored by Festo Didactic and Easterseals.
Festo, a state-of-the-art logistics and manufacturing plant in Mason that provides automation technology has welcomed KHS seniors, Adam Lynch, Aidan Courtney, and Jack Horsley for the last 10 weeks to learn more about pneumatics and mechatronics.
The three students were chosen for the pre-apprenticeship because of their interest in the advanced manufacturing career field for a future career. In order to participate, students must have completed or are in the process of completing the academic pathway of Algebra 1 and Employability and Careers II classes.
On Thursday, March 17, Adam, Aiden, and Jack graduated from the program at a ceremony at Festo. KHS School Counselor, Chris Griffin said, "Our students have had a great experience with this program."
The Program was made possible by a workforce development grant that was awarded to Easterseals, a Cincinnati-based nonprofit organization focused on improving workforce equity, inclusion, and access.

KHS & SLE Students Collaborate on Book
|
|
Several Kings High School art students are collaborating with first graders from South Lebanon Elementary to publish a book.
Kings Art teacher, Stacy Hoffert, and SLE 1st grade teacher, Abby Burroughs have collaborated together to create a book about the rainforest. Mrs. Hoffert got the idea to collaborate after being inspired by a project that she worked on with KHS Art teacher, Carrie Cooke called the Monster Project. "I wanted my KHS Drawing class to get a real-world experience working for a client and working as an illustrator," she said.
The first graders in Mrs. Burroughs class did the writing for the book. Hoffert chose Mrs. Burroughs to help with this project because "she is always up to do something different and challenging for her students," she said. Mrs. Hoffert also has a special connection to Mrs. Burroughs's class because she has two children in the class.
The teachers are using a company called Student Treasures which will receive the written and illustrated pages and will publish the book for free. Order forms will be available for parents to buy a copy if they choose.
"I am so proud of Mrs. Bourrough's first graders who wrote an amazing nonfiction book about the Rainforest. They did all the research themselves! I am also so proud of my high school drawing class. They are putting in extra effort for these little first graders," Hoffert said.
