Kings Bond Approved by Community

Kings voters approved a bond issue on Tuesday, March 19 53%-47% in an election with a 25% voter turnout.

This is a critical milestone that will allow Kings to construct a new high school, add 8 classrooms at CIS, and increase space throughout the district to address our growing enrollment numbers and to meet the current and future educational needs of our students.

Our decisions surrounding the design will foster our "Power 5 Future Skills" of critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and career readiness.

Every aspect of the building will provide our students with modern spaces to maximize their academic, artistic, and athletic potential while preparing them for life after graduation.

Over the next few months, we will conduct site engineering and analysis to determine the most cost-effective solutions for making this high school a reality. Throughout the design and construction, we are committed to keeping the Kings community closely informed with regular updates and engagement sessions. We will ask our community to take part in this process as we bring this vision to life and ensure the new school reflects the innovative spirit of Kings.

Initial estimates project the construction to begin in early 2025, with the new high school opening for the 2027-2028 school year.

NO SCHOOL for Solar Eclipse

Solar Eclipse on April 8 - NO SCHOOL for staff and students.

For the first time since 1806, Ohio will be the site of a total solar eclipse. This once-in-a-lifetime event will take place on Monday, April 8, 2024. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon's path crosses directly in front of the sun. Many parts of the state will be in total darkness for a few minutes during the midafternoon.

Experts are predicting that the sun will be at least 98% blocked by the moon in the Kings Local School District surrounding communities. The eclipse is estimated to begin in our area around 2:00 p.m., with the maximum totality around 3:11 p.m., and ends at approximately 4:30 p.m. The timing of the eclipse presents a safety challenge as it will occur during elementary dismissal times.

Our concern is that there will be students on buses, walking, or driving home during the peak of the eclipse. Our student’s safety is a concern because partial phases of any eclipse can only be safely viewed with specialized eye protection.

Additionally, this event is expected to draw large numbers of tourists to Ohio. The Ohio Department of Workforce and Development is warning that the eclipse could significantly impact traffic, as well as cell service and internet bandwidth.

For these reasons, and to align with all Warren County school districts, the Kings Local School District will be closed on Monday, April 8, 2024.
